SUMMARY

 

The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office (OPSO), New Orleans, Louisiana, provides the care, custody, control, and rehabilitation of its residents. The Mission of the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office is to provide community safety and service to the people of Orleans Parish by protecting the rights and humanity of people in custody, supporting the wellness of our staff, and facilitating connections to the community in order to restore public trust and maintain a healthy community.

The position of Case Manager is in the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, Orleans Justice Center (OJC), and reports to the Chief of Corrections. The incumbent is responsible for providing services to the assigned caseload of residents in the Orleans Justice Center and will engage with residents daily to assess identified needs, develop a case plan to meet those needs, facilitate offense-related programs, and prepare for re-entry into the community or other facilities.

 

SALARY

 

The salary for a selected applicant will be aligned accordingly and commensurate with the applicant’s knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, and education requirements of the subject position. This position is exempt.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Deliver psychological, educational, vocational, offense-related, and re-entry intervention programs.
  • Conduct needs-based assessments to develop a case plan and re-entry plan.
  • Write detailed reports and other correspondence.
  • Facilitate formal mediation between residents and staff.
  • Facilitate communication with attorneys, public agencies, law enforcement agencies, and families as necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with all OPSO staff and external partners within the policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Research and identify community resources and services before processing residents for release.
 
  • Conduct one-on-one and group interventions with residents and assist residents in developing better problem-solving techniques and tolerance of ongoing problems.
  • Compile social histories of residents, which reflect the nature and extent of criminality, current and prospective social problems, developmental history, and causative factors.
  • Compile special progress reports on residents preparing for release to the community or correctional transfer and make the appropriate recommendations in response to requests.
  • Assists in identifying appropriate residents for work within the facility.
  • Participates in treatment team meetings, disciplinary board hearings, resident pod representative meetings, and other meetings as required.
  • Performs work following established rules and regulations.
  • Receives close administrative supervision.
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

 

Requirements, Skills, and Ability:

  • Mandatory Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or related field, or at least 4 years’ experience working in corrections or a closely related field as a case manager.
  • Preferred- a master’s degree in psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or related field
  • Preferred- at least 2 years delivering individual and group interventions in a correctional facility.
  • Proficient in MS Office and databases.
  • Strong analytical skills and able to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Ability and willingness to take on challenging responsibilities.
