Position: Assistant Wrestling Coach

Position Summary:
The Assistant Wrestling Coach will assist the Head Wrestling Coach in all aspects of this NCAA Division I Wrestling program with an emphasis on the effective recruitment of student athletes across the country, and management of all home events/dual meets. S/he must have a proven record of success in recruitment and coaching at the collegiate level, and be able to adhere to all university, Southern Conference, and NCAA regulations. This is a full time, twelve-month position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support and assist the head coach with recruiting, administration, and instruction within Campbell University’s wrestling program.
- Effectively recruit athletes from around the nation who can be successful within the team system developed by the head coach; maintain recruiting logs to ensure compliance.
- Assist the Head Coach with long term and short term roster planning, anticipate weight class and position needs for future lineups.
- Design and execute recruitment strategies that align with current roster size, program needs and recruiting budget.
- Coordinate campus visitations for potential student athletes.
- Coordinate and manage all home events/dual meets.
- Analyze match videos; help formulate training strategies; and instruct student- athletes on the techniques of wrestling.
- Assist in promoting, organizing and running camps.
- Help with fundraising efforts implemented to improve the wrestling program and athletic department.
- Communicate and at times, work closely with other departments on campus such as academic advising, residence life, admissions, sports information, campus recreation, compliance,
athletic training, and strength and conditioning. - Help monitor the academic progress of student-athletes.
- Motivate and inspire student-athletes to excel in the classroom and on the mat.
- Exemplify the goals, values and objectives of Campbell University’s Wrestling program.
- Uphold and abide by all Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX, HIPAA and FERPA guidelines.
- Other job related duties and activities may change or be assigned by the Head Wrestling Coach or the Director of Athletics, at any time, with or without notice.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of 2 years college coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level desired
- Demonstrated success recruiting within a collegiate wrestling program
- Experience competing as a NCAA Division I wrestling athlete desired
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to teach wrestling at a high level all within a professional setting
- Communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels
- Maintain strict confidentiality
- Knowledge of Microsoft Applications, the internet, and social media
- Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with athletes, coaches, officials, trainers, university faculty, staff, administration and the general public
- Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people
- Exercise independent judgment in complex, new, and/or stressful situations
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holiday breaks
- Ability to travel, including overnight stays
- Flexibility, adaptability and the ability to work in a changing environment
