About the Department

This is a Department Promotional Examination and is open to eligible employees of the Kern County Sheriff's Office who have permanent status in the classified service and received an overall standard or better on their last employee performance report.

Examinations: 
Written Exam (Weighted 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of evaluating the applicant's knowledge of the operation and use of automated systems, personal computers, network technologies, and peripheral equipment; an understanding of the logical operation of IT systems and mobile communication devices; PC operating systems and hardware; directory services, such as Active Directory, and basic networking of computers; working knowledge of data processing methodology and techniques in creating documentation and data security.

Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the exam process.

The Human Resources Division may solely conduct an appraisal of application materials should there be an insufficient number of candidates to warrant a performance examination. Should a performance examination be necessary, the performance examination will be weighted at 100%.

Examination components for promotional testing will be administered during the scheduled date(s)/time(s)/location(s) without exception. 

Minimum Qualifications / Employment Standards:

High School Diploma, G.E.D. and completion of thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter units from an accredited college or university with course work in computer science or information systems;
OR
Completion of an accredited trade or vocational school training program in computer repair, computer science or information systems;
OR
One (1) year paid full time experience providing user support in the installation, repair, and maintenance of enterprise computer systemsequipment, mobile devices, equipment and other technical systems.

Qualifying experience must have been within the last five (5) years.
 
Applicants must possess the physical capacity to perform all essential tasks.
 
A valid Class "C" California Driver's License is required at the time of appointment.

Minimum Qualifications

Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.

A background check may be conducted for this classification.

Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.

This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
