Description
The chief financial officer (CFO) is responsible for all financial matters of Central Arizona Shelter Services, Inc., and will oversee multiple administrative departments, including finance, facilities, compliance, and human resources. The CFO will report to the chief executive officer (CEO) and partners with the executive leadership team to develop and implement organization-wide strategies. The candidate must demonstrate strong leadership across multiple disciplines, while being able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace.
Responsibilities:
Fiscal Management
- Oversee the structure and processes necessary to manage the organization's current financial activities. Anticipate change, make decisions in a timely manner, communicate change as an opportunity and respond to uncertainty with productive solutions.
- Maintain and update CASS financial and accounting policies and procedures consistent with organizational requirements and goals.
- Oversee short and long-term financial activities, including assessment of future grant opportunities and provide recommendations to leadership.
- Oversee internal controls including purchasing and cash management; and coordination of annual external audit.
- Evaluate and refine departmental workflow to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and effective coordination across finance, compliance, facilities, and human resources functions.
- Prepare, monitor and revise the CASS annual operating budget, cash flow analysis, and future operating budgets.
- Prepare and interpret monthly financial reports for the executive team, board finance committee and board of directors; staff the finance committee.
Financial Compliance
- Oversee the coordination and activities of independent auditors ensuring all A-133 and 403(b) compliance requirements are met.
- Ensure the preparation of the annual financial statements are in accordance with U.S. GAAP and federal, state and other required supplementary schedules and information.
- Oversee and improve workflow for compliance processes that adhere to ethical guidelines and standards, ensuring deadlines are met, documentation is complete and cross-departmental communication is consistent.
Department Oversight
- Oversee human resources initiatives and monitor compliance with employment laws and regulations.
- Lead compliance operations for federal, state, county and city requirements, as well as internal policy adherence.
- Oversee the development and monitoring of data-driven continuous improvement strategies.
- Oversee the maintenance and operational readiness of all CASS facilities, ensuring they are safe, compliant and efficient.
- Manage capital improvement and renovation projects in collaboration with executive team.
Leadership and Supervision
- Manage finance, compliance, facilities and human resources departments, including hiring, training, coaching, supervision and evaluation.
- Work closely with the CEO to ensure consistent cooperation and communication between all agency departments to enhance the effectiveness of the mission.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows and work cooperatively to implement these and other continuous quality improvements.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and streamlined workflow across all supervised departments
Requirements
- BBA or BS in Accounting, Business or related field, or comparable experience (CPA a plus).
- Minimum five years executive level experience (non-profit preferred) with autonomous responsibilities, supervision of staff, and interactions with Board level committees.
- Proven effectiveness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and systems.
