About the Department
The Machinist Foreperson is responsible for assisting in the assignment, oversight, and direction of the activities of the work crews and contractors under their jurisdiction. Included among the essential functions of this position are communication with "customer" departments, and the responsibility for ensuring that the repairs and preventive maintenance of all mechanical equipment maintained by the Division are completed.
Position Duties
- Order, schedule, and expedite equipment necessary for project completion
- Ensure that all inventory levels, equipment, and facilities under their control are protected and maintained in a safe operating condition
- Inspect job sites to ensure that work schedules, quality, and safety standards are met
- Document, maintain, and prepare required maintenance records on manual and automated systems
- Measure actual work results against operating standards.
- Establish an effective interface between management and employees, and when necessary, with union representatives
- Act in the best interest of the Authority, ensuring fair and consistent application of the Authority’s rules, regulations, and policies
- Establish and maintain a work environment that is in compliance with both the spirit and intent of the Authority’s commitment to EEO, Anti-Discrimination, and Anti-Harassment
- Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned
Supervision
- Work crews and contractors under their jurisdiction
Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution
- Seven (7) years of experience in the mechanical field where the primary duties were repairing and maintaining equipment and facilities, as well as general upkeep of materials and machinery
- Experience in a supervisory, managerial, or leadership capacity
- A valid driver’s license in accordance with MBTA policy
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Competence to motivate and oversee the day-to-day activities of a diverse workforce
- Successful applicants must have English language skills required for the effective performance of the position
Other Qualifications
- A nationally recognized certification, or statewide/professional certification in a related field, substitutes for one year of experience
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Experience in the use of automated record-keeping systems
- Experience in the troubleshooting and repair of gas turbines
- Current membership in the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers is desirable
