Loss Prevention Specialist

Summary

To assist the credit union in achieving its mission statement: PFCU WILL DELIVER FINANCIAL WELL-BEING WITH VALUE, CONVENIENCE AND EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE. Identify probable losses in a timely manner and take appropriate action to keep them to a minimum. Support, model & adhere to PFCU’s Service Standards as outlined in My MARC.


This position is hybrid with a home branch of the Portland Headquarters. It is a requirement to come in branch.

Essential Functions, Duties, & Responsibilities

Past due Loans & Credit Cards:

  • Prepare & mail letters.
  • Make & take phone calls of past due members.
  • Document all communication with members regarding their account.
  • Make decisions or recommendations regarding referral of legal action to Attorneys, Small Claims Court, repossession, foreclosure, bankruptcy and house calls. Including filing of all necessary notices, forms & request for documentation needed to sell assets.
  • Assist Members to become current & to prevent or limit Credit Union loss per collection policy.
  • Be able and willing to collect the most serious accounts using all tools available including recommending house calls.
  • Be willing to assist with Oreo’s when needed.
  • Verify delinquent property taxes on mortgage, home equities and HELOC loans.

OD Shares:

  • Prepare & mail letters.
  • Make & take phone call of overdrawn members.
  • Ensure that overdrawn accounts have a firm repayment plan in place.

Bad Checks & Fraud:

  • Prepare & mail letters.
  • Make & take phone calls regarding collection of bad checks & fraud items/transactions.
  • Notify proper Law Enforcement Agencies.
  • Notify VP of Internal Audit/Compliance of all fraud activity and advise to file proper SAR forms and bond claims.
  • Processing CSR Alerts
  • Processing FIS Alerts
  • Updating Verafin Alerts

Problem ATM & Debit Cards & related Transactions:

  • Investigate unusual activity.
  • Close Members Cards due to improper activity or delinquent OD shares.

Garnishments, Levies, Subpoenas:

  • Receive & log all new Garnishments, Levies & Subpoenas.
  • Prepare forms & letters to members, courts & Attorneys.
  • Place proper holds on funds.
  • Perform lookup of requested materials.
  • Make timely payments & delivery of documents.

CUNA /Allied

  • File & assist members with Disability, Death & CPI Claims.
  • Coordinate CPI between Allied, Credit Union, Insurance Agents & Members.
  • Add & Refund CPI premium to member loans.
  • Adjust loan payments for increases due to adding of CPI to loans.
  • Assist members with GAP claims.

Other

  • Be able to work approximately 70 accounts per day.
  • Have multitask abilities.
  • Be familiar with Credit Union’s policies, products, services & fees.
  • Be able to assist members or be able to refer to proper area of Credit Union.
  • Perform file maintenance, phone number, Employment, etc.
  • Process all return mail of department.
  • Process all department e-mail.
  • Skip tracing of members.
  • Process Abandoned Vehicle notices.
  • Receive & process Credit Counseling company requests.
  • Make decisions to prevent or lessen any loss.
  • Be able to assist members with payroll splits.
  • Handle member transaction request.
  • Be able to look up & add document to Imaging.
  • Be able to work with computer programs, such as (Epysis, Vantiv, Word, Excel, Adobe & Internet explorer).
  • Maintain department logs.
  • Be willing to assist Underwriters in approving, denying, or qualifying loans to member with current or past delinquent history.
  • Maintain cleanliness and security of work area and equipment, including protecting the confidentiality of member information.
  • Ensure that all is being done to help a member with every contact.
  • Ensure compliance with all governing regulations including but not limited to the laws & regulation related to Debt Collection.
  • Process credit report disputes using E-Oscar.
  • Post Convenience Pay Credit Card payments.
  • Seek training opportunities to develop or enhance through training, conferences, reading etc. Willingly participate in and attend educational functions and meetings as requested by management.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Regulatory Compliance

Follows regulatory and policy compliance requirements which would include those efforts in compliance with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC), Red Flag and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Regulations, and other compliance related policies.

This position requires maintaining confidentiality with regard to non-public information about our members, employees and the Credit Union. We must protect the confidentiality of member information. Financial transactions are confidential and private. With account access, employees are to handle member information responsibly and confidentially.

Education Requirements

High School Graduate or equivalent

Work Experience Two years of experience within the Credit Union, or an equal amount of experience in a related position outside the credit union is preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, clients, members, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have the capability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized and non-standardized situations.

Other Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent knowledge of the credit union’s core system.
  • Excellent working knowledge of the forms and documentation used by the credit union.
  • Strong knowledge of credit union products and services.
  • Excellent understanding of the Credit Union departments and procedures.
  • Punctual, self-motivated, confident and accurate.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both written and verbal.
  • Able to stay calm under pressure.
  • Professional attitude; supportive management.
  • Neat and professional in appearance and dress.

  • Ability to operate related computer applications and other business equipment including adding machine, typewriter, copy machine, coin and money counting machines, computer, and telephone.
