The Norfolk Community Services Board (NCSB) provides treatment, support, and education to the community with a focus on mental illness, substance use addiction, and intellectual/developmental disabilities. Norfolk CSB provides services to persons in acute crisis as well as integrated, person-centered, and recovery-oriented programming for persons needing assistance and support stabilizing in the community.

Today, the NCSB provides treatment and rehabilitation services to over 6,000 Norfolk citizens yearly. Norfolk CSB seeks team members interested in providing skilled services in a public service environment. The NCSB is seeking an Early Childhood Special Educator to provide Developmental Services for children and their families who are receiving early intervention services through the Infant & Toddler Connection of Norfolk. Supports a caseload of individuals with developmental delays, atypical development and/or a medical condition with high probability of resulting in a developmental delay and their families to help the child reach their fullest potential. Services are delivered in the child's natural environment (home, childcare, community) utilizing a coaching interaction style and in accordance with the frequency listed on the Individualized Family Service Plan. This position also serves on multiple assessment teams each week. 

Department Hiring Salary Range: $59,393 - $68,301

Position Duties

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Provide Developmental Services in accordance with the Individualized Family Services Plan to children birth through 2 years of age with developmental delays and/or a medical diagnosis with high prevalence of leading to delays.
  • Utilize coaching and adult learning principles to help families learn intervention strategies to utilize throughout the child's daily routine. 
  • Serve on several multidisciplinary teams each week to evaluate children and develop an appropriate treatment plan. 
  • Services to children and their families will be provided in the child's home and/or other community location where child spends time.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in special education or related educational field.

Experience working with developmentally delayed infants/toddlers.
  • Early Intervention and/or Preschool Special Education. 

Other Qualifications

  • Valid Driver's License may be required depending on assignment.
  • Ability to obtain Early Intervention Professional certification through DBHDS is preferred.
  • Virginia Department of Education licensure with endorsement in one of the following 6 categories:
    • Early Childhood Special Education (birth-5)
    • Early/Primary Education (PreK-3)
    • Early/Primary Education (NK-4)
    • Elementary Education (PreK-6)
    • Special Education – General Curriculum (K-12)
    • Special Education – Adapted Curriculum (K-12)
Preferred:
  • Virginia Department of Education licensure with endorsement in one of the following categories preferred:
    • Educator of the Hearing Impaired
    • Educator of the Visually Impaired 
  • Provisional licenses are not accepted.
Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus for new hires.
