Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials, an Orbia business, is hiring for an Application Lab Test Engineer in Houston, Texas.
 
Main Purpose:
 
The Application lab engineer role engineer will be responsible for leading the build and commissioning of HVACR environmental test cells as well as certifying the stability and accuracy of the test data.
This role requires experience in refrigerant testing, familiarity with SAE or ASHRAE standards and the ability to interpret the standards to drive continuous improvement of test data integrity.
The Application lab engineer will also support ASHRAE/ SAE standards development and Cooperative Research Programs (CRPs) by providing technical support to the business development team.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
Environmental test chamber commissioning:
 
  • Strong technical background in refrigeration chillers used in a HVACR testing environment and wind tunnels.
  • Knowledgeable in RS Logix PLC(programmable logic controllers) ladder logic, ability to read/analyze and trouble shoot.
  • Knowledgeable in VFD(variable frequency drives), low voltage controls, DAQ (data acquisition systems) and instrumentation.
  • Ability to lead continuous improvement projects by enhancing and optimizing test cells.
  • Lead the commissioning of new test cell builds.

 

Collaboration & Testing Protocols:
 
  • Collaborate with the global lab team to develop testing protocols for new refrigerants in automotive/residential and commercial refrigeration systems.
  • Ensure all testing is conducted in compliance with relevant Orbia safety standards and ASHRE/SAE regulatory standards.
  • Conduct methods of testing relevant ASHRAE and SAE standards, analyze and interpret data on different refrigerant blends.
  • Provide technical support to the business development team to support ASHRAE/SAE standard development.

 

Continuous Learning & Development:
 
  • Stay updated on advancements in refrigerant technology and HVAC systems.
  • Provide technical support for industry and corporate standards.
  • Participate in external project activities as determined by business needs.
  • Recommend and implement necessary equipment and material updates.

 

Education & Experience Required: 
 
  • Bachelor’s level – Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5 Years+ in engineering preferably in an HVAC testing environment.
  • Language(s) and level of proficiency: English-Proficient.
  • Physical requirements: Must be able to occasionally lift 40 lbs,, work from ladders, lifts, and work with energized equipment.
