Join us for a very exciting opportunity, traveling across the country supporting a road cycling relay ride from Oregon to New Jersey! 

This is a temporary assignment starting September 4th

We are looking for Paramedics to participate on Coast to Cast for Cancer as cycling escorts during the race.

All travel and boarding accommodations are paid for.

Current schedule slots open for those who apply:

Section 1: 2 slots open - Starting in Cannon Beach OR. September 4th to September 7th (includes travel days)

Section 2: 2 slots open - Starting in Bend, OR. September 7th to September 10th (includes travel days)

Section 3: 2 slots open - Starting in Boise, ID. September 10th to September 13th ( includes travel days)

Section 4: 2 slots open - Starting in Salt Lake City, UT. September 13th to September 16th (includes travel days)

Section 5: 2 slots open - Starting in Denver, CO. September 16th to September 19th (includes travel days)

You'll be flown to a destination where you will meet the client and spend your day's caring for cyclists who will be riding from Oregon to New Jersey. Your specific assignment will be from Portland to Salt Lake, Salt Lake to St. Louis, or St. Louis to New Jersey.

Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:

The Paramedic or RN will perform duties associated with providing ALS and BLS care to the sick and injured in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations and EMS Unlimited policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The employee must possess and apply knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of an EMT/ Paramedic and Rescuer, in a dignified and compassionate manner, including but not limited to:

  • Must be capable of performing all duties autonomously and in the austere. It is not uncommon for EMS Unlimited staff to be staged at assigned aid station locations where they are the sole medical provider. 
  • Responding to emergency and non-emergency requests calmly, efficiently and promptly;
  • Administering basic life support to patients at the scene, in a pre-hospital/pre-transport setting in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations and standards;
  • Assessing the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed;
  • Maintaining order at scenes, including crowd disbursement and restraint of family and friends; and Completing patient care forms, insurance forms, evaluation forms, and all other forms in a competent and timely fashion. 
  • Conduct pre-event medical equipment inventory. 
  • Cleaning, organizing and restocking supplies in a ready condition after each use;
  • Respond to requests for emergency and non-emergency medical care at events and other duties related to assisting event staff with general tasks that support the event;
  • Maintaining accurate records of request for emergent and non-emergent first aid and medical care. Properly document each customer/patient interaction on the approved Patient Care Report in accordance with policies and procedures;
  • Handling radio communications professionally and efficiently with careful regard to the divulgence of information respecting confidentiality requests at all times;
  • Work Cooperatively with assisting agencies. This may include, but is not limited to; Event Staff, Volunteers, security teams, EMS Transport agencies, event participants and spectators. Be nice, professional, courteous and an all-around happy and pleasant person. 
  • The employee must perform all job responsibilities in a manner that protects patient privacy:
  • The employee is expected to protect the privacy of all patient information in accordance with EMS Unlimited Privacy Policies, procedures, and practices, as required by federal (and state) law, and in accordance with general principles of professionalism as a healthcare provider. Failure to comply with policies and procedures on patient privacy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
  • Be a team player, as EMS is a team effort, and providers must provide necessary assistance to ensure work area sanitation, readiness, and adherence to quality assurance standards;
  • Be flexible - work shift schedule may vary, and the start and shift times may vary due to the nature of the business;
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of applicable current standards of care, including equipment functions and uses;
  • Assure that all certifications, licenses, and registrations are up-to-date; and
  • The employee conducts themselves in a courteous, helpful, dignified and professional manner at all times when dealing with patients, co-workers, supervisors and or the public.
Qualifications:

The employee must have a minimum of either a high school diploma or a GED as evidence of completion of high school education and must have and maintain current state driver's license.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

  • The employee must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, current state EMT or Paramedic certification, NREMT-P and CPR.
  • FEMA ICS training 100 and 700 is required
  • Additional certifications preferred: PHTLS, ATLS, PALS, EPC, AMLS, Hazmat, Wilderness
  • Preferred skills: cycling
