Seeking a dynamic leader to oversee every athletic facility at the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex (GFRC)—Hillsboro’s premier sports destination. As Sports and Facilities Manager, you will drive efficient operations, proactive maintenance, and strategic development while nurturing strong relationships with professional sports franchises, collegiate programs, and community user groups. Your leadership will deliver high-quality recreational and athletic experiences that ignite pride city-wide.

Each year, thousands of residents and visitors explore our parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and recreation programs—plus destination facilities such as Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve, Walters Cultural Arts Center, Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center, Hidden Creek Community Center, Tyson Recreation Center, Outdoors-In, Hillsboro Community Senior Center, and the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex. Position Overview & Key Responsibilities

As Sports and Facilities Manager, you will provide strategic direction for all complex operations, ensuring fields, stadiums, and shared spaces exceed safety and quality standards while maximizing community access.

  • Drive day-to-day facility excellence, maintenance, and risk mitigation across all athletic venues within the complex.
  • Coach and inspire three full-time staff plus seasonal and event teams—hiring, mentoring, and scheduling for peak performance.
  • Design and orchestrate tournaments, college games, and citywide celebrations that wow athletes and spectators alike.
  • Forge and steward lease and contract partnerships with the Hillsboro Hops, Portland State Athletics, OSAA, and the Hillsboro School District.  Recruit and cultivate new partnerships to with entities.
  • Translate usage metrics, finances, and program outcomes into clear, actionable insights.
  • Champion creative budgeting and revenue initiatives that keep the complex thriving.
  • Collaborate with program managers within program team and all of Parks to ensure consistent program delivery to participants.  

Current & Upcoming Projects

  • Hillsboro Ballpark Transition – Integrate the stadium into full City management and broaden community access
  • Field Replacement & Development Plan – Shape strategies to replace three fields displaced by new ballpark construction
  • New Partnership & Customer Recruitment – Attract fresh user groups to optimize scheduling and revenue streams

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Public Administration, Environmental or Ecological Science or a closely related field 
  • 5 years of recreation programming experience, including 2 years of supervisory experience; OR, 
  • an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Anticipated Work Schedule
Standard hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., onsite at the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex. To support evening or weekend events, this position will occasionally work flexible hours, with adjusted schedules provided in advance.

Bilingual incentive pay available:
Preference may be given to candidates who are bilingual in Spanish/English.
 
Employees who can demonstrate the ability to speak Spanish, or any language spoken by over ten percent (10%) of City residents as documented by the most recent U.S. Census, at a proficiency level determined by a fluency test administered by the City, will receive a monthly premium of three percent (3%) of their regular base pay.
