Job Description:

The College of Health Solutions is seeking a positive and enthusiastic Research Advancement Manager dedicated to post-award research administration.

The manager will be responsible for supervising departmental research advancement staff and providing them with process and systems training. This position will be responsible for providing post-award financial, accounting, and administrative support for various federal and state agencies, foundations, and industrial firms.

The Research Advancement Manager may provide recommendations for upper-level management and will prepare complex analysis of trends and metrics to assist in unit decisions. In this position you will interact with senior internal and external personnel on significant technical matters. This position will also serve as a liaison between colleges, schools, departments, and research investigators in their interactions with ORSPA.

Essential Duties:

•    Supervise assigned post-award staff.
•    Training faculty and staff on post-award processes.
•    Establish budget control systems to ensure expenditure is in accordance with ASU and sponsor regulations.
•    Provide financial oversight for a large portfolio consisting of various funding and sponsor types.
•    Perform regular account reconciliations and inform management of irregularities while proceeding with corrective action.
•    Perform award modifications including but not limited to At-Risks Accounts, Pre-Award Costs, Award re-budgets, and No Cost Extensions.
•    Submit periodic and annual financial reporting for grant agencies, completes the account close out process.
•    Serve as a resource to staff for sponsor policies regarding the administration of award funds.
•    Read and understand award documents to determine restrictions and discern other pertinent information.
•    Work in conjunction with ORSPA and ASU research investigators to ensure timely and accurate post-award accounting of grants.
•    Perform other duties as assigned.

•    Experience in critical thinking and problem solving.
•    Experience in preparing detailed documents, reports, and/or related materials. 
•    Demonstrated knowledge of the policies, procedures, and requirements of all applicable regulations governing management of grants and/or contracts for sponsors such as NIH, NSF and DoEd.
•    Experience in utilizing knowledge of research administration to identify solutions to issues.
•    Demonstrated knowledge of federal regulations as they apply to research administration (Uniform Guidance) for Post-Award Services.
•    Experience working within the ASU ERA system.

Working Environment:

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting, subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.

  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.

  • Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to the resolution of conflicts.

  • Evidence of effective communication skills to perform essential duties.

The current training programs include behavioral health, biomedical diagnostics, biomedical informatics, exercise science, health promotion, health sciences, kinesiology, medical studies, nutrition, population health, science of health care delivery, and speech and hearing science. Our programs are offered at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, Polytechnic, West and Lake Havasu campuses, as well as on Mayo Clinic’s campus in north Phoenix.
