Sharon Middle School is seeking a reliable long-term substitute Spanish teacher to join our collaborative World Languages team starting August 25th, 2025, for a period of approximately 4 weeks (this could be extended beyond those 4 weeks or shortened depending on need).  The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic educator capable of teaching students across a range of proficiency levels, from novice-low to intermediate-mid. A valid Massachusetts teaching license in Spanish is required.

 

Our department follows the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines and embraces comprehensible input as a key instructional approach. The long-term substitute will be responsible for continuing instruction with minimal disruption, maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment, and collaborating with colleagues to support student learning.

 

Sharon Middle School is a diverse and inclusive learning community where over 30 languages are spoken by students and families. This educator will play a vital role in advancing the district’s equity goals by fostering appreciation of global cultures and languages. The position contributes to Sharon’s commitment to biliteracy and multilingualism through instructional excellence, cultural engagement, and student advocacy.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Planning and Delivery

  • Deliver engaging, standards-based Spanish lessons using existing curriculum and lesson plans.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.

  • Incorporate comprehensible input strategies and ACTFL proficiency targets.

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Implement and monitor formative assessments already in place.

  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students as needed.

Classroom Management

  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment.

  • Use effective classroom management strategies that support engagement and respect.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with World Language colleagues to ensure continuity of instruction.

  • Communicate professionally with students, families, and staff as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Massachusetts educator license in Spanish (5–12).

  • Experience teaching middle/secondary Spanish.
