The Master Maintenance Technician mechanic will provide the professional and technical expertise necessary to service and maintain HVAC mechanical equipment in our growing school division! Key responsibilities of this role include: repairing, troubleshooting, installing, adjusting and replacing, boilers for heating and domestic hot water, chillers, air handlers, exhaust fans, DX and rooftop package units, heat recovery units and a wide range of refrigeration equipment. Performing under minimal supervision, the Master HVAC Technician will be responsible for leading a small team of apprentices and journeyman to complete maintenance objectives both preventative and ongoing.
Essential Job Functions:
- Train and manage journeyman and apprentice level HVAC employees under his/her supervision and makes effective suggestions and recommendations and provide solutions for faulty HVAC mechanical equipment or to correct poor indoor air quality conditions
- Makes clear sketches of proposed HVAC work, and assists in the design and specification of planned jobs or contracts as needed
- Makes use of new ideas for improving the workplace experience, equipment performance and worker motivation
- Interprets school division and maintenance department policies to assigned personnel, and enforces safety regulations and adherence to proper codes and standards
- Trains and instructs employees in new methods or procedures; is responsible for identifying and removing hazards that affect the safety of others
- Communicates proper stock levels of repair or replacement parts to parts manager.
- Ensures all work orders are performed in a timely manner to acceptable quality standards
- Coordinates with the HVAC Department Head, and others concerning equipment operations and other indoor air quality related maintenance issues
- Performs preventive and general maintenance procedures on HVAC and refrigeration equipment, resolve indoor air quality issues and moreover, will assist others in doing so as well
- Consults with the Director of Maintenance or Supervisor of Maintenance or the HVAC department head on all matters not considered routine

Education and Experience:
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Current (valid, non-expired) State of Virginia Driver’s License
- Master’s Level Trade License in the State of Virginia
- OSHA 30 Certification -OR- EPA Universal CFC Certification
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience working as a maintenance mechanic, all ideally within a public school system or other public institution or setting
- Demonstrated leadership ability
Preferred
- Current (valid, non-expired) Driver’s License and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Class B endorsement
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience working as a maintenance mechanic, all ideally within a public school system or other public institution or setting
Special Requirements:
- The employee must pass a yearly physical and participate fully in the drug/alcohol screening program.
- This position is designated as "Essential Personnel", which requires that employees report to their job site during emergency situations, such as snow, inclement weather, or other emergency situations. May be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week for emergency situations, including weather and other building emergencies.

Employment Terms: Employment may be offered as a 12-Month (243 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. This position is evaluated annually.
