Job Title:  Fayetteville High School Theatre Teacher (One-Year Position)

 

Job Type:  Salaried, Full-Time, This position is for the 2025-2026 school year only

 

Job Description:  Fayetteville High School is seeking a creative and collaborative teacher for a one-year theatre opening.  The ideal candidate will foster students’ introduction to theatre and their exploration of beginning level theatre experiences in a positive, organized, and enthusiastic manner.  This position involves coordinating with a team of teachers to provide opportunities for creative expression and support the continued growth of the FHS Theatre Program.  This position involves teaching beginning level theatre courses as aligned with the Arkansas Department of Education Drama Standards, as well as assisting with supervision of extracurricular rehearsals, performances, and activities. 

 

Primary Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Daily instruction of:
    • Theatre I - A full year course designed to develop an understanding of basic theatre skills.  Students will evaluate different acting techniques, directing choices, set construction, costuming, improvisation and playwriting. 
    • Theatre Appreciation - A one-semester course in live theatre acting, a study of technical theatre, and a look at theatre history.  Areas of emphasis will include improvisation, acting techniques, stage presence, playwriting, script reading, line memorization, and technical theatre. 
    • Acting for Theatre:  Improv - A semester-long course involves the active participation of Improvising for the Theatre through the practice of “Yes, and…”  Students will develop fundamental skills in collaborative risk taking, and examine the origin and impact of improvisation as an art form.  
  • Supervision of a grade-level advisory class, providing academic and personal guidance to assigned students and creating intervention and extension sessions for students to attend as needed during the advisory period. 

 

Additional Duties May Include: 

  • Assisting with theatre department programs and productions throughout the year.
  • Supervising rehearsals during advisory and supporting student performers and directors. 
  • Attend and assist with local, regional, and state Thespian events and competitions.
  • Collaborate with other Theater and Fine Arts Department Faculty to enhance inter and cross-disciplinary opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, Theatre Education, or related field (required)
  • Valid Arkansas teaching license in Theatre, or the ability to obtain one (required)
  • Experience working or teaching high school students in a theatrical setting.
  • Strong knowledge of theatre history, performance and production techniques.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative learning environment.

 

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time position aligned with the Fayetteville Public Schools and Fayetteville High School academic calendar. 
  • Some after school commitments during performances and special events in a supportive role.  This position will not direct a production during the 2025-26 school year.
