Delivery Assistant (CDL Delivery Driver Trainee)

Responsibilities & Essential Functions

1. Loads and unloads product from trucks by ways of fork lift, pallet jack, hand truck, or lifting.
2. Assists trucks for the delivery of products following preset routes provided
3. Serves as a brand advocate and ambassador in every interaction with clients and the public
4. Follows directions on load sheet to properly load product for delivery
5. Collects payment or invoices from clients
6. Product knowledge in regarding expiration dates and rotating products
7. Conducts daily inspections of the vehicle at end of shift
8. Complies with all DOT and in-house regulations and rules
9. Provides quality service to our clients and positively represent Schott Distributing

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education & Experience

1. No DWI/DUI or excessive driving infractions in last 5 years
2. Must be eligible for and willing to obtain their CDL-A (Commercial Driver's License)
3. Must be 18 or older
4. Customer service experience preferred

Work Environment

This position is performed in a warehouse or in a delivery truck/trailer with continuous stops at accounts. There is some exposure to weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and standard warehouse equipment such as fork lifts, hand trucks, box cutters, and tape dispensers.

Physical Requirements

1. Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift, carry, and move cases and kegs of beer, regularly weighing up to 25 pounds, and frequently weighing up to 160 pounds (kegs), multiple times throughout the day.
2. Bending and Stooping: Frequent bending, stooping, and squatting to load and unload products from the truck and stock them at delivery locations.
3. Pushing and Pulling: Pushing and pulling loaded hand carts, pallet jacks, or dollies to transport beer products.
4. Climbing: Climbing in and out of the delivery truck and possibly using ladders or stairs to access storage areas at delivery locations.
5. Standing and Walking: Extended periods of standing and walking, as deliveries are made throughout the day.
6. Driving: Ability to drive for long periods, sometimes several hours, while maintaining focus and safely operating a large delivery truck.
7. Manual Dexterity: Handling and maneuvering products, using tools to secure loads, and completing paperwork or electronic delivery logs.
8. Talking: Effective verbal communication with customers, team members, and dispatchers to confirm orders, provide updates, and resolve delivery-related concerns.
9. Hearing: Ability to hear surrounding traffic, vehicle warning signals, and customer interactions, as well as recognize important auditory cues for safety and operational efficiency.

Expected Hours of Work

Regular workdays are Tuesdays-Fridays, with a flexible start time ranging from 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.

10-hour workdays plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Some Mondays may be required. Some overtime may be expected. Workdays change during some holiday weeks.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area may be expected.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Employees are required to pass a pre-employment physical and drug test and are subjected to random drug testing throughout employment with Schott Distributing, in accordance with FMCSA and DOT regulations.
