Job Title: High School Basic Skills Paraprofessional
Job Classification: Classified
Reports to: Building Administrator/Director of Student Services
Work Schedule: Full-Time 7:45-4:00
General Description:
The Basic Skills Instructor provides instructional support to help students develop foundational executive functioning skills. This role focuses on reinforcing lessons, assisting with small-group or one-on-one instruction, and supporting the implementation of targeted interventions. The Basic Skills Instructor works under the supervision of licensed staff to ensure instructional activities align with school goals and intervention plans.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree or higher preferred)
- Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to follow instructional plans and adapt to the needs of diverse learners
- Basic knowledge of reading, writing, and mathematics instructional strategies
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and supporting student success
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction on executive functioning skills, such as, goal setting, time management, and self advocacy, through provided curriculum resources
- Work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce concepts introduced by the instructor
- Prepare instructional materials, resources, and learning activities as directed
- Support classroom teachers by implementing intervention strategies aligned with core instruction
- Monitor student work, provide feedback, and encourage student engagement
- Track student participation and maintain an accurate grade book
- Help administer assessments and gather progress-monitoring data as directed by the instructor
- Supervise students during instructional activities to maintain a safe and productive learning environment
- Other duties as assigned
School Activities:
Assist in school-wide academic events such as tutoring sessions, intervention boot camps, and enrichment programs
Participate in professional development and training opportunities as assigned
Support school activities that promote academic achievement and student engagement
