About the Department
Colonial Behavioral Health provides opportunities for recovery to individuals and their family members in the areas of mental illness, substance use disorder, and developmental disabilities. Colonial Behavioral Health serves the citizens of James City County, City of Poquoson, City of Williamsburg, and York County.
We are currently recruiting students enrolled in an accredited college/university Master's Degree programs in the Human Services field (i.e. Counseling, Psychology, Social Work) for practicum through internship opportunities.
The Behavioral Health (BH) Intern positions are available within the Adult and Children's Outpatient Services Department. The interns participate in participates in counseling, case management, group supervision, case consultations, and professional development activities. The paid internship will provide an opportunity to

Position Duties
- Assist individual, family, and/or group therapy sessions with children and adolescents experiencing mental health and/or substance use disorders.
- Develop Individualized service and treatment plans and implement interventions.
- Collaborate with other members of the treatment team, including therapists, psychiatrists, and other professionals and community providers.
- Provide appropriate referrals for other services including medication management and/or case management within CBH.
- Provide psychoeducation to clients and families.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
- Uphold the Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct
Minimum Qualifications
PRN/WAR -Monday thru Friday (Hours Vary).
Other Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a graduate program in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related human services field.
- Demonstrated interest in working with children and adolescents.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to ethical and professional standards.
