About the Department

The Assistant Supervisor of Mechanical Maintenance will assist in the planning, scheduling, direction and supervision of the personnel, equipment and resources involved in performing inspection, repair, maintenance, installation, alteration, and refurbishing work of the Mechanical Maintenance Section.

Position Duties


  • Enforcement of Authority safety standards to ensure the safety of workers and customers.
  • Troubleshooting and reviewing the work of the employees and contractors, and developing recommendations for improvements.
  • Performing accident/incident inspections.
  • Arranging for the requisition and delivery of all materials and equipment necessary to complete the Section work.
  • Ensuring that all inventory levels, equipment, and facilities under their control are protected and maintained in a safe operating condition.   
  • Prepare reports, schedules, correspondence, and other required documentation.
  • Process invoices, vouchers, and other documents.
  • Coordinate work assignments of personnel.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of labor and material recordkeeping.
  • Document, maintain, and prepare required maintenance and personnel records on manual and computerized tracking systems.
  • Ensure budgetary goals are met and that all work is performed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner consistent with the Authority’s “Driven by Customer Service” quality standard.
  • Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and to assist at emergencies and/or events as needed.  
  • Act as the Supervisor of Mechanical Maintenance in his/her absence.
  • Work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed; either directly or through subordinates, respond to emergencies on a twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) day per week basis.
  • Assist in conducting collective bargaining negotiations as needed; participate in grievance procedures.
  • Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees.
  • Assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies.
  • Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.


Supervision

  • Assists in the supervision of Mechanical Maintenance Section personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

        

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution.
  • Four (4) years of experience in mechanical systems such as HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, dewatering and compressed air.
  • Related experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Effective organizational and analytical skills.
  • The ability to use Word, Excel or Database applications.
  • Have excellent customer service skills.
  • Have a valid driver’s license.
  • Have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed.
  • Have the ability to respond to emergencies on a twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) days per week basis.
  • Have the ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.
  • Successful applicants must have English language skills required for the effective performance of the position.
