About the Department
The City of Jacksonville's office of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Recreation Programs Assistant to join our team. The Recreation Programs Assistant will support the planning, implementation, and supervision of recreational activities and programs for community members of all ages.
Position Duties
- Support the Office of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services in the facilitation of parks programs, activities, and events for the City of Jacksonville.
- Assist the Community Programs Manager in the set-up, implementation, and coordination of a variety of recreational programs and activities.
- Duties required for this position will include all aspects of running a program, which include the set-up, facilitation, supervision, breakdown, and debrief of the program.
- Programs produced by the Office of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services include:
- First Thursday Yoga at Friendship Fountain
- First Fridays at Friendship Fountain
- Monthly Movie in the Park Nights
- Art In the Park
- Fitness Classes
- Dance Classes
- & More!
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience in recreation, events, or community programming preferred but not limited to.
- Interest in public service, recreation, events, and program management.
- Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, adheres to strict deadlines, and is professional, flexible and dependable.
- Work requires the ability to safely perform all essential job functions, including the ability to lift, carry, push or pull 50 pounds without assistance.
- Ability to work independently under general policy directions and exercise independent judgment when appropriate.
- Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills. Depending upon the program, this position will involve giving instructions and announcements to both small and large groups.
- Must be able to work evenings, nights, and weekends.
Other Qualifications
OPEN REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- 10-20 hours per week, depending upon scheduled programming needs.
- This position will require nights and some weekend shifts. Schedule and shift assignments will be created and provided monthly.
- This classification performs safety-sensitive functions and is subject to pre-employment, random and other drug/alcohol testing programs as set forth in the City of Jacksonville’s Drug Free Workplace Policy (0401).
- Must pass background screening on a local, state and federal level as required by the State of Florida Children and Family Services.
- A valid driver’s license is required and must be maintained.
- Must qualify for prior to appointment, obtain and maintain during employment in this class a City of Jacksonville certification as a Public Driver.
- Must possess and maintain valid CPR and First Aid certification within three months of employment.
