Role Overview:
As a Direct Support Professional, you will work directly with individuals with disabilities, supporting their participation in the Old Saybrook Day Program. In this dynamic role, you will help individuals achieve their goals, foster life skills, and engage with their community in meaningful ways. Your compassion and commitment will provide the foundation for a positive and enriching experience for each person in our care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist individuals with achieving personal goals and growth, including skill-building activities, recreational programs, and community integration.
  • Provide hands-on support with daily activities, such as personal care, mealtime assistance, and mobility needs.
  • Foster an uplifting and respectful environment that celebrates each person's abilities and individual potential.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all program participants while promoting their independence.
  • Document daily progress, observations, and activities as required by UCP policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with team members and families to develop and maintain individualized care plans.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a caregiving role.
  • Ability to pass background checks and any required health screenings.
  • Strong communication skills and a compassionate, patient demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in human services, social work, or a related field.
  • Previous experience as a Direct Support Professional or in a similar healthcare role.
  • Training in behavior management techniques and person-centered planning.
  • Familiarity with community resources and support services for individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to changing client needs.
