The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full-time Animal Services Officer in the Animal Services Department.

Position Duties

As a Animal Services Officer, you will:
- Enforce animal services laws and ordinances by patrolling the city for animal violations and responding to calls for service.
- Provide premier customer service to internal and external customers by responding to calls for service in a timely and professional manner and by assisting customers in the shelter and on the phone.
- Safely handle, secure and transport stray and/or injured animals and/or wildlife.
- Investigate and document all animal bite cases, take enforcement action when appropriate, and follow through with court testimony when required.
- Assist ASO Field Supervisor and ASO II personnel in investigating reports of animal cruelty and neglect cases, working with law enforcement officials and City and County prosecutors. Respond to all subpoenas and provide court testimony when required.
- Remove deceased domestic animals or deceased animals creating a safety hazard for motorists from city roadways.
- Support Animal Services specialty programs (e.g., TNR program, Egret program, etc.).
- Assist citizens with redeeming lost pets.
- Required to work as an essential employee before, during, and after an emergency or disaster, whether natural or acts of war.
- Stay abreast of, and comply with, all City and departmental policies and procedures, as well as applicable municipal and state codes and ordinances.
Minimum Qualifications
Formal Education:
- High school education or GED.
Relatable Work Experience:
- A preference for one (1) year in the care and handling of animals in a professional setting or other animal-related experience.
- Municipal or County experience preferred.
Training (License and/or Certification):
- Must be able to obtain a Basic Animal Control Officer Certification within 6 months of employment.
- Valid Texas Class “C” Driver's License required.
