Job Summary:

  • Responsible for personnel and activities in the production department(s), with direct or dotted line supervision of Production, and other personnel on site during the shift.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of Production Functions and provides technical support to Production personnel.  
  • Performance is measured by the ability to meet deadlines, maintain standards performance, and establish a work environment conducive to high levels of engagement, safety, quality, and delivery.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


WORK ASSIGNMENT, MONITORING and LEADERSHIP

  • Prioritize, and delegate work assignments based on schedule, input from Quality and Maintenance personnel.
  • Directly supervise personnel responsible for producing products, meeting company, safety, quality, and performance standards, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Within the shift: plan production schedules; review component parts and sub-assembly availability against build schedule. Communicate parts shortages to purchasing; resolve schedules as necessary.
  • Monitor safety, quality, delivery KPI’s and take action as appropriate.
  • Reviews production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  • Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Consults with other Leaders to coordinate activities among departments, shifts, and teams.

 

QUALITY ACTIVITIES

  • Monitor processes and products to ensure adherence to best production practices and documented quality standards.
  • Communicate with Management and Operators regarding quality problems or elevated risk of defects based on available data.
  • Train or assist new or inexperienced employees in gage techniques as required.
  • Provide information and training to others as necessary to ensure that the most accurate information is available to other employees as needed.
  • Ensure the completion of all required production paperwork, records, documentation, such as timecards, quality records, etc. Conduct random audits of documentation to check for completeness and accuracy—including recording of in-process inspection data, part counts, etc.

 

SAFETY

  • Ensure compliance with departmental housekeeping standards and all safety and work rules and regulations.
  • Communicate and enforce company policies and adhere to all state, federal, and company safety regulations and practices. Acts as a role model for all employees. Assist employees with obtaining the correct PPE.

 

TRAINING

  • Ensure the training of new and present employees in the processes and methods required to achieve the company’s standards for safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Allocate a portion of your teams to participate in inter-department cross-training opportunities.
  • Recommend training sessions, courses, certificates, etc. that align with departmental goals 

 

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS

  • Develop, recommend, and implement departmental policies and procedures, processes, and methods.
  • Approve vacation schedules in accordance with production needs.
  • Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals and performance standards.
  • Maintain time and production records; update and correct as needed.
  • Conduct employee meetings [includes Employee concerns, safety, quality, efficiency of department, etc.]
  • Participate in planning meetings, recommending space, personnel, and equipment requirements.
  • Maintain departmental supplies, tools, equipment, and order as necessary.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively across all levels within the organization to achieve company objectives.
  • Maintain good employee relations. Takes proper and judicious disciplinary measures when required, with the support of Human Resources.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: 

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

  • Two-year college or university program certificate in Supervision, and/or four years related experience and/or training.
  • Two years’ experience or formal inspection/quality training in a manufacturing environment

 

SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information. Ability to read blueprints. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Computer literate with ability to use document, spreadsheet, and other applications currently used.
