About the Department
A registered professional nurse who, under the direction of the CoLaS Coordinator, is responsible
for guiding the students’ learning experiences to achieve the objectives of the program of study.
Simulation faculty guide and direct the learning experiences of students through knowledge, skills, and motivation. Members of the faculty agree to be accessible to students, other faculty, staff, and to those making inquiries to the College, and to assume a fair share of the total workload of the College as may be assigned.
Position Duties
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide effective and high-quality simulation instruction according to Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice.
Operate simulation software and audio/visual equipment.
Prepare simulated activities with necessary equipment, props, and moulage with extreme attention to detail.
Set up/takes down simulation scenarios.
Assist with scheduling simulation activities for nursing courses.
Keep up with best practices in simulation education.
Serve as a resource for nursing department faculty for simulation best-practices.
Maintain accurate records of students participating in simulation and submit reports as required.
Provide competent advising to students and participate in recruitment and retention activities.
Support the nursing department and the college in the fulfillment of its mission.
Assist in program and curriculum review, revision and development.
Participate in implementation and evaluation of curriculum.
Maintain positive and professional interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, staff and administration at the college.
Participate in professional development activities to keep up with innovative practices that improve teaching and learning.
Maintain office hours which facilitate student and faculty access.
Maintain open lines of communication via email/Moodle with students, faculty, staff, administration, and community members.
Serve on college committees as appointed and assigned. Participate in clinical agency, course, and program committee meetings.
Facilitate student learning of course objectives in the simulation setting.
Support student learning outside of class.
Minimum Qualifications
Possess a strong commitment to the mission of community colleges.
Have excellent written and oral communication skills.
Have an appreciation of the value of collegiality.
Have at least one year of nursing education simulation experience.
Have the appropriate academic credentials to teach at the program level:
Current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.
Minimum of two calendar years or equivalent of full-time experience in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse.
A graduate degree with a major in nursing from an accredited institution.
Must meet North Carolina Board of Nursing requirements for preparation in teaching learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation appropriate to assignment. (21NCAC 36.0318 (3) Faculty)
Must meet requirements as specified by the clinical agencies.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice.
Knowledgeable about audio/video equipment and simulation-related software.
