Chief Digital Information Officer
Job Summary
The Chief Digital Information Officer (CDIO) is an important member of the senior leadership team who is responsible for creating, maintaining, and expanding an information technology strategy that meets the institution’s needs, delivers optimal return on investment, and maintains a high level of security. The CDIO will oversee our information technology and audio-visual departments to ensure short- and long-term technology goals are properly communicated and achieved. The CDIO will serve as a subject-matter expert on information technology operations and ensure technological solutions support the museum’s mission while encouraging collaboration across all levels of the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Establish and execute the Museum’s long- and short-term technological strategy and identify ways that technology can assist in achieving institutional objectives, elevate visitor engagement, and promote sustainability, support collection access, and streamline internal process and workflows.
- In collaboration with the senior leadership team, participate in setting the long-term goals, digital vision, and tech architecture for the museum, both technology-specific and on a broader scale.
- Oversee core technology systems, including enterprise applications (including Microsoft Azure, Jira Service Management, Meraki, VMware vSphere, and Cloudflare), software development, digital platforms, and IT infrastructure, ensuring efficient and reliable support of Museum operations. Ensure the security of technology systems and identify areas for improvement to address evolving needs.
- Lead cross-departmental technology initiatives that improve integration and ensure seamless technology adoption across teams. Work closely with museum staff to develop technology-driven experiences, such as interactive exhibits, digital products, and other tools that improve visitors’ experiences and elevate the Museum’s educational and cultural impact both online and onsite.
- Direct change management efforts to support adaptability and facilitate smooth transitions during technology-driven transformations.
- Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring operational spending aligns with organizational priorities and financial restraints.
- Work effectively with external stakeholders, maintaining clear and consistent communication to foster partnerships that enhance the Museum’s digital capabilities and impact.
- Ensure compliance with government regulations that apply to systems operations.
- Oversee cybersecurity, data privacy, and technology-related risk management, ensuring protection against evolving digital threats.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Recruit, hire, manage, and mentor a team of highly effective technology professionals, fostering strong relationships and positive team dynamics. Communicate long- and short-term goals and projects to team members and establish a clear plan for execution. Conduct performance evaluations in a timely and constructive manner.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field required. 10+ years of progressive experience administering information systems and technologies and 5 years managing IT operations as a solution or system architect required.
Master’s degree preferred.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proven ability to align technology strategies with organizational mission and objectives, with a focus on improving visitor experiences, boosting operational efficiency, and ensuring long-term sustainability.
- Expert-level knowledge of hardware/software platforms including but not limited to operating systems, databases, application servers, web servers, integration technologies, and line of business (LOB) applications.
- Proven ability to use data-driven insights to support operation strategies.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Expertise in information technology, regulatory compliance, and project and program management.
- Able to adapt to evolving technologies.
- Excellent communication, problem solving, project management, personnel management and team management skills.
- Proven ability to negotiate contracts with third-party suppliers in an effective manner.
- Excellent ability to conceptualize long-term business goals and develop orderly processes to accomplish these goals.
- Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Expertise in project and program management, IT systems, and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to work under pressure with ambiguous or competing priorities.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and evenings as needed.
Working Conditions
This position includes sitting and working at a computer for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
