This is administrative and professional work coordinating EMS continuing education training countywide and the initial training and testing of new Paramedics and EMTs through the County’s EMS Academy program. Incumbents also perform specialized technical work in planning, coordinating, and monitoring all EMS Training and the EMS Academy phases. This will include online and classroom-based curriculum development, conducting online and classroom training, overseeing, and conducting scenario-based training, skills evaluation, and testing.
Responsibilities include, depending on the area of assignment, coordinating the development, evaluation, and administration of training and the collection of data necessary for the preparation and modification of training according to contract/regulations, feasibility studies, site plan review, status updates, activity scheduling and administration of current specifications, developed internally and from outside contractors, is a key element of this classification. Work requires exercising considerable independent judgment and initiative in developing training specifications, monitoring procedures, and ensuring the achievement of training objectives. Work is performed under the general supervision of departmental management.
What Do You Need To Have?
6 years responsible experience in EMS as a Paramedic, EMS management and/or training; or
Associate's degree in business, public administration, health care administration, or related field and 4 years’ experience in EMS as a Paramedic, EMS management and/or training; or
Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, health care administration, or related field and 2 years’ experience EMS as a Paramedic, EMS management and/or training; or
Master’s or higher-level degree in business, public administration, health care administration, or related field; or
An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
Florida Driver's License
Other highly desirable knowledge, skills, abilities, and credentials relevant to a position.
Highly Desirable
Experience administering an EMS Training program, serving as an EMS instructor, Paramedic preceptor or Field Training Officer.
Paramedic certification and clinical experience preferred.
Experience as an instructor or training coordinator.
Knowledge of presentation programs (i.e., Articulate 360, Prezi, Powtoon, Captivate, or Canva).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of automated information systems, office procedures, and data processing.
Skill in interfacing effectively in a complex and dynamic work environment, verbally and in writing, with clinicians and stakeholders.
Skill in good listening and communications.
Skill to prepare clear and comprehensive technical reports, recommendations and proposals, verbally and in writing.
Skill in preparing and monitoring complex, technical operational, training and budgetary reports.
Skill in reading and comprehending clinical protocols, administrative laws, rules and regulations as they relate to emergency medical services.
Ability to work under pressure in a highly collaborative and proactive manner with direct involvement with partners and collaborators.
Ability to work independently on complex tasks and non-routine matters.
