General Purpose of the Position:
This position performs experimentation, analysis, design of experiment, and materials engineering in the IGS Materials Department under the direction of the Principal Materials Engineer. The Engineer II is expected to be able to fully perform projects with limited input and supervision, interact with internal (IGS) and external (Client) stakeholders as needed, and perform basic project and technical review for Engineer I employees and technicians. Field inspections and small field projects are also occasionally managed by this person.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Both manages and executes the completion of Materials Engineering projects under direction of Principal Materials Engineer.
- Operates complex laboratory equipment (example: SEM/EDS, Autoclaves, Corrosion Test Equipment).
- Writes reports, memorandums or communicates findings verbally as required.
- Responsible for administration and maintenance of Technology Solutions standards and procedures.
- Manages upkeep, calibration and presentation of Tech Solutions equipment, materials and general facilities.
- Inspects and reports on field performance of IGS coating and welding work, either concurrent with an application or on inspection cycles.
- Manage and support laboratory technicians.
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Familiarity with performance evaluation equipment and procedures.
- Familiarity with sound research methodology and analysis of results.
- Excellent verbal, written, and communication/presentation skills.
- Technical Writing / Technical Literature proficiency.
Effort/Working Conditions:
- Job is performed in a typical office and industrial laboratory environment.
- Field travel to work sites and customer locations is sometimes required. Representation at conferences and exhibitions is also required. This travel is both domestic and international.
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, or Chemical Engineering; Other degrees with supplemental Materials experience will be considered.
- 2+ years of prior work experience (Including prior jobs, Co-ops, or significant project experience).
