The position of Golf Course Ranger/Starter is responsible for overseeing the smooth and timely pace of play of a golf course. The Ranger patrols the course and driving range, ensuring golfers follow the course’s rules and regulations, monitors golfers during play to maintain golf course rules and play etiquette while also ensuring the proper timeline of tee-offs.

Requirements

  

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Check with Golf Shop for any special instructions or requests.

2. Ensure players tee off at their assigned tee times.

3. Observe pace of play on the golf course, requesting slower playing groups to speed up pace, if appropriate.

4. Inform professional shop services about the rate of course play for the day as needed and appropriate. 

5. Supply players with score cards, pencils, rules of play and other amenities as directed.

6. Prevents players from entering course beyond starting tee. 

7. Assist in maintaining golf course conditions by promoting use of divot repair sand, ball marks and ensure sand traps are raked.

8. Escort unauthorized people from the golf course. 

9. Enforce facility rules and regulations. 

10. Promote facility programs, events, and image to the Members at all times. 

11. Maintains clean and orderly appearance of stater’s booth at all times. 

12. Advises players and golf cart attendants about course conditions. 

13. Assist golf cart room attendants when needed.

14. Other duties as assigned.

  • Comply with all rules, regulations and policies as stated in the Employee Handbook and/or established by the Board of Governors.
  • Adhere to the Club’s Code of Ethics and Conduct.
  • Must be cognizant of the rules and regulations of the facility for the safety and welfare of the staff and members.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and meet all deadlines.
  • Adhere to all stated policies and  procedures.
  • Adhere to appearance standards consistently.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:


Education: High school diploma or equivalent.


Skills: 

· Strong communication and cooperative skills.

· Positive interpersonal, customer service skills.

· Strong organizational skills.


Knowledge and Certificates: Golf knowledge preferred.


Experience:  Prior experience not required. 


Physical Demands of Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met and/or encountered by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

1. Requires mostly outdoor work with limited, occasional indoor work.  

2. Flexible days/hours; weekends/holidays/evenings may be required. 

3. While performing duties of the job, employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, and reach overhead.

4. Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee is required to regularly kneel or crouch, bend, reach overhead and walk. 

5. Must be able to pull and lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds regularly.

6. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.


Machines/Equipment/Tools used:

1. Uniform required (Club provided)

2. Shoe shine equipment

3. Handicap software


Classification:  Hourly, non-exempt.


Supervision: No supervisory duties are included in this position.
