Job Summary:
The InHouse XTO Geosteering Analyst is a dynamic and pivotal role within Impac Exploration Services, Inc., offering a unique opportunity to work within the operations geology team on Exxon's corporate campus. The position is crafted to work within a collaborative 'Pod' structure alongside remote directional drillers and engineers to enhance drilling operations efficiency. This role transcends traditional geosteering tasks, requiring the Analyst to engage in multifaceted geological assignments and directly contribute to Exxon's operational strategy and execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform high-level geosteering functions to guide drilling operations, working closely with directional drillers, wellsite supervisors, and drilling engineers to optimize well placement in real-time.
- Gain an intimate understanding of Exxon's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring strict adherence to their policies and procedures.
- Participate in the 'Pod' teamwork structure, fostering seamless communication and strategy execution between geosteering analysts and drilling operators.
- Undertake geological side projects and assignments as directed by Exxon during non-drilling periods, contributing to broader operational objectives.
- Ensure the integration of geological data and interpretation into drilling operations, providing insights and recommendations for improved performance.
- Maintain rigorous data analysis and quality control standards, ensuring all geosteering recommendations are accurate and reliable.
- Adapt to evolving operational needs, demonstrating flexibility and a broad skill set in both geosteering and general geological practices.
- Collaborate with Exxon's geology and drilling teams to establish workflows and practices that capitalize on the collocated operational structure for peak efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology, Geophysics, or related fields; professional experience in geosteering or operations geology preferred.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, high-performance environment, ideally with experience in a 'Pod' or similar collaborative work setting.
- Strong understanding of drilling operations and the ability to rapidly integrate geological interpretations with drilling dynamics.
- Extensive experience using cross sections to proactively project casing points, coring intervals, and landing point changes.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency in geosteering software and geological databases, with an aptitude for learning and utilizing new technologies as required.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. and able to relocate to or commute to Spring, TX.
Reporting Structure:
- Reports directly to the InHouse Geosteering Team Lead, contributing to a tightly integrated team focused on driving drilling excellence and operational success.
Work Environment:
- This role is based in Exxon's corporate campus, requiring a consistent on-site presence to maintain the close collaborative efforts with the drilling team.
- Rotational schedule working 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, alternating day and night hitches.
