Primary Functions: 

  1. Ensures compliance to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.  Keeps up-to-date on new accounting pronouncements. Completes continuing education classes.  Works with independent auditing firm to confirm proper accounting methods are being used.

 

  1. Coordinates the General Ledger month-end close process for all corporate entities.  Reviews G/L accounts for accuracy.  Gathers needed month-end bank/investment statements.  Prepares account analysis schedules and completes reconciliations of accounts.  Follows-up with departmental directors regarding variances to budget.  Prepares, enters and posts journal entries.  Obtains and ensures accuracy of statistical data.

 

  1. Completes, publishes and distributes month-end reporting for all corporate entities.  Prepares and distributes the monthly financial reporting package for presentation to the Board of Trustees’ Finance Committee.  Prepares and distributes the monthly departmental responsibility reports to directors. Researches and provides answers to director questions regarding monthly financial performance.

 

  1. Builds and generates ad-hoc reports, as required. Constructs reports to aid in the analysis of financial and statistical data using reporting tools in EPIC. Creates worksheets and/or data bases for data analysis. Builds General Ledger reports to assist in financial analysis.

 

  1. Maintains General Ledger accounts and all month-end reports.  Adds/changes/deletes appropriate companies, sub-accounts and departments in the General Ledger. Ensures all reports reflect the latest chart of account changes.  Ensures General Ledger reports balance with system trial balances.

 

  1. Assists with the Accounts Payable function.    Assists accounts payable clerk with finding solutions to various issues as well as providing back up to the a/p role.  

 

  1. Prepares and issues 1099’s accurately and timely and files the 1096 with the IRS.

 

  1. Prepares work papers for and assists third parties in preparation of interim and annual reports.  Prepares interim and annual schedules for the independent accounting firm for the annual audit.  Assists in the preparation of work papers for preparation of annual governmental reports, including but not limited to cost reports, wage index reports, HCAP reports, DSH audits and the Form 990 tax report for exempt organizations.

 

  1. Monitors non-patient revenue and receivables.  Prepares month-end reports.  Monitors resulting miscellaneous accounts receivable and notifies management of collection issues.

Accepts other duties/responsibilities as assigned. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:  

Education:  

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field. 

 

Experience:  

Two (2) years accounting experience. Previous experience in a healthcare environment preferred. 

 

Knowledge:  

Basic knowledge of computers including experience with Microsoft Excel. Basic knowledge of standard office equipment. Must be proficient in the use of a 10-key calculator. Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English. Demonstrates flexibility, ability to multi-task and effective organizational and interpersonal skills.
