A Day in the Life as an Assistant Transportation Manager:

As an Assistant Transportation Manager, you’ll assist the Transportation Manager and Transportation Director with the general supervision, maintenance, preparation, presentation, monitoring, reporting, and public relations of all Agency transportation grant awards. This position will also provide back-up driver coverage for Concord Area Transit (CAT) and Mid State Transit (MST) routes and back-up coverage for dispatch staff and the reporting and support specialist. Your day will involve: 

  •  Providing telephone information and referral about all scheduled programs, routes and general services.
  •  Operating under the Agency's DOT compliant Drug and Alcohol Policies for safety-sensitive employees.
  •  Assisting the transportation manager with the coordination of all scheduled maintenance and vehicle repairs with the Community Action Program's Technician and contracted services.
  •  Working closely with and assists the transportation manager with the daily operation of services and helps to identify and report any problems in the operation, scheduling and implementation of the system.
  •  Assisting with the scheduling of drivers and vehicle placement as it relates to Agency needs.
  •  Assisting with the purchasing process by placing orders, completing purchase orders, verifying orders and invoices for approval and submitting them to the Fiscal Department.
  •  Assisting the transportation director with the general supervision and maintenance of all transportation grant awards.
  •  Assisting with the implementation of new transportation programs including their structure, procedures and services.
  •  Assisting with ensuring that vehicles are maintained properly for safety, reliability, performance and appearance. Registers Agency vehicles and is responsible for updating insurance policies on vehicles.

Your role will directly contribute to a positive participant experience and efficient operations across the Transportation Department.

Requirements

Qualifications to Be an Assistant Transportation Manager:

To excel in this role, you’ll need: 

  •  Education: Bachelor's Degree in transportation related field or business preferred, or the equivalent of three years in closely-related education and work experience in a transportation field.
  •  Experience: Experience in the administration, operation, and resource development of public transportation or related services. At least 1 year of bus driving experience, including transporting passengers.
  •  Skills: Proficient computer skills, including MS Office. Ability to learn applicable software’s required to complete the job. Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and meet job performance measures with minimal direct supervision and guidance. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  •  Characteristics: Excellent organizational, communication skills, and management techniques. Ability to be polite and courteous at all times in dealing with passengers and negotiating traffic. Ability to make well-reasoned decisions, both independently and as part of a team, work effectively with staff.
  •  Technical: Successful completion of criminal record check. Valid driver’s license with access to reliable transportation for required travel. Must possess a valid NH CDL-B with passenger and air brake endorsements. Maintain a current DOT medical card. Complete driver training courses within required timeframe and have obtained a Certificate of Completion. (Defensive Driving, Passenger Assistance and Emergency Evacuation).
  •  Must pass Agency Drug & Alcohol pre-employment testing to be qualified. Required to participate in random drug and alcohol testing as established by Agency Drug & Alcohol policies for safety sensitive employees.

Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license are required, as some travel within the community may be necessary.
