Are you looking to join a growing organization that puts people first? Credit Union of Georgia is looking for a Principal Software Engineer/Designer to join our busy IT department.
This is a new role.
The Principal Software Engineer/Designer will lead the design, architecture, development, and implementation of innovative software solutions. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership and strategic planning responsibilities. Serving as a technical leader in the organization, the Principal Software Engineer/Designer will provide architectural guidance, help define the technical vision and help shape the organization’s long-term technology direction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of scalable, high-performance software systems.
- Serve as a technical authority and provide architectural guidance across multiple teams and projects.
- Collaborate with product management, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and system architecture.
- Drive engineering excellence by enforcing coding standards, test automation, CI/CD practices, and system reliability.
- Mentor and coach engineers at all levels, promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Evaluate and recommend technologies, tools, and practices that align with business goals.
- Contribute to hands-on development and code reviews as needed to support critical paths.
- Ensure software meets security, compliance, and regulatory standards as required.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with 3+ years in a technical leadership or principal role.
- Proven experience designing large-scale, distributed systems and service-oriented architectures.
- Expertise in Java, C#, Python, Node.js, React, AWS, and other modern languages.
- Deep understanding of software engineering best practices including Agile methodologies, CI/CD, DevOps, and cloud-native development.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience mentoring and influencing engineering teams across departments or functions.
- Experience in a regulated finance industry.
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Background in data architecture, machine learning, or microservices a plus.
