Details you should know
- On-Call / Float Part-time shifts available. Work hours may vary.
- You may be scheduled to work anytime the store is open.
- You’ll work at multiple store locations in the Spokane, WA and surrounding cities / areas.
- The pay for this position is commensurate to your experience and location.
What you’ll do
Fill prescriptions, provide information to customers, and perform duties of Pharmacy Manager in his/her absence.
- Log into the computer, unlock pad lock on metal gate, if applicable, use a key and push the gate up to open. Retrieve till from customer service desk and place it drawer in pharmacy.
- Check the thermometers inside the refrigerator/freezer to ensure the temperature setting is accurate; write the temperature in the log book.
- Begin filling prescriptions in the computer program by selecting prescription, print the prescription label, retrieve drug from the shelves, check the medication against a hard copy, count pills by pouring the pills on a tray and using a spatula to count to specific amount. Higher quantities of pills are counted by scanning the pill bottle and placing the pills on a scale, which automatically counts the pills. A controlled substance is counted twice. Place pills in a bottle and secure with a lid; initial the hard copy and place a label on the bottle; place bottle in a plastic zip lock bag with the receipt/paperwork, and file the filled prescription in alphabetical order on the rack.
- Place the hard copy of the prescription in numerical order in a filing box located on the counter (new prescriptions only). For refills, the tab is torn off the hard copy and placed in a filing bin.
- Assist customers at the walk up and drive thru by taking the prescription from the customer, discuss insurance, input patient's information into the computer. Call the insurance company if the medication is denied or continue attempts in the computer to override. Worker will retrieve the customer's prescription from the shelf, scan hard copy and have customer sign using a signature pad for insurance and HIPPA purposes; enter the price into the register; exchange payment in the form of cash, check, debit/credit from the customer. Place prescription in a paper bag, staple the receipt to the bag and hand to the customer. Answer any questions the customer may have and/or counsel on medications. If assisting a customer in the drive thru, open the window by sliding it; fill prescription as outlined above, and payment is completed using a hand-held scanner for the customer.
- Answer phone calls from customers, doctors, insurance companies, etc.
- Give shots including flu, tetanus, shingles, pneumonia, etc. The customer is given a consent form to complete. The Pharmacist will look over the form to make sure it is appropriate to give the customer a shot. The customer's information is entered into the computer (same process as filling a prescription), information is processed through the insurance company and customer would sign for the shot; and process a co-pay if required. Worker will retrieve a container with alcohol swabs, cotton balls, band aids, gloves and needles; retrieve the specific shot from the refrigerator or freezer; verify it is the correct shot and if it is appropriate for the customer; secure the needle onto the top of the vile; retrieve the sharps container and meet the customer in the waiting area and administer the shot and dispose of the needle into the sharps container.
- Dispose of trash as needed by removing garbage bag from can and placing trash in the back room. Trash consists of mainly paper products and empty plastic containers.
- Open freight and put drug orders away consisting of medications and supplies occasionally weighing approximately 1-10 lbs.
- Reconstitute a liquid antibiotic by measuring out prescribed amount of water by releasing the latch on a hose and dispense liquid into vile powder, shake until dissolved.
- Assist customers with products outside of the pharmacy over the counter (OTC) area.
- Closing duties include shutting the gates, where applicable, using a metal grabber to pull down the gate and secure with a pad lock.

Requirements
You’ll also need to…
- Be 18+ years or older
- Submit to a background check
- Have a Degree in Pharmacy, PharmD, and Pass State Board exams.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift, carry and push up to 10 pounds.
