In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.

  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).

  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.

  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.

  • Federal Work Study student may apply.

  • In good disciplinary standing.

  • Must be located in the U.S.

The Costume Shop Assistant will work to support the full-time costume shop staff in all aspects of costuming for select BCB theater, dance, and opera productions. The Costume Shop is responsible for fitting, altering, and building the costume pieces for each show, as well as costume maintenance and storage. All Costume Shop Assistants will receive hands-on training in basic sewing techniques and other technical skills as needed. The CSA reports directly to the Costume Shop Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Hand sewing: closures, labels, and certain alterations will be stitched by hand

  • Machine sewing: using industrial sewing machines and sergers as needed

  • Shop organization

  • Maintenance and upkeep of all costume facilities

  • Basic administrative duties

  • May be asked to assist with show costume maintenance and cleaning

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Must have consistent weekly availability during shop hours of M-F 9am-5pm

  • Must be available to work 7-10 hours per week

  • Must be able to climb a ladder up to 12ft.

  • Must be able to lift up to 35lbs.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Interest in theatrical costuming

  • Willingness to learn

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • Basic sewing experience
