Janssen BioTherapeutics is seeking a highly motivatedcandidate to develop a best-in-industry platform for the delivery ofbiotherapeutics to the brain.

The development of biotherapeutics to treatneurological diseases has been hampered in significant part due to theintrinsically poor permeability of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) for largeproteins. One commonly exploited path for increasing brain penetration ofbiotherapeutics is receptor-mediatedtranscytosis.  While current receptor-mediated transcytosis platforms havesucceeded in increasing the brain delivery of biotherapeutics, severaldeficiencies remain. Addressing these deficiencies will be the focus of thisproject. Within this context, thepostdoctoral fellow will have latitude BBB.

At Janssen, postdoctoral fellows are trained byexpert scientists working at the cutting edge of drug discovery.  JanssenBioTherapeutics supports a wide range of therapeutic areas including Oncology,Neuroscience, Cardiovascular and Metabolism, Immunology, and InfectiousDiseases.  The successful candidate will learn from and contribute to anindustry-leading drug discovery program that has brought numerous qualitytherapeutics to patients and significant contributions to human health. Theywill partner throughout the Janssen R&D organization and participate incross-functional team discussions, gaining insight into many aspects ofbiotherapeutic discovery and development.  The Postdoctoral Fellow isexpected to author papers on their research and present novel findings atscientific conferences.

Key Objective:

To use a deep understanding of BBB biology todevelop an optimized platform for the delivery of biotherapeutics to thebrain.

Suitable candidates willhave a Ph.D. in cell biology, neuroscience or a related field. Researchexperience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:

  • Broad knowledge of cell biology, endosomal trafficking and blood-brain barrier biology
  • Extensive expertise in culturing and conducting assays with a wide variety of cell types including brain endothelial cells and iPSCs
  • Confocal microscopy
  • General experience with molecular biology, protein expression and purification, in vitro biochemical assays, ELISA, MSD, and cell-based functional assays.
  • Candidates must display an ability to independently design and execute research. In addition to a broad knowledge of cell biology and neuroscience, we are seeking an individual with deep intellectual curiosity, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
