POSITION TITLE: Facility Safety and Grounds Technician

 

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months

 

JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, the Facility Safety and Grounds Technician will work and develop, implement, and maintain the health and safety programs for the employees and students of Yadkin County Schools' Facilities Department. This position will also be responsible for overseeing the functionality of operating systems (e.g., fire, security) within school buildings.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  1. Serves as a liaison for the department concerning health and safety concerns or identified hazards.
  1. Conducts routine inspections of grounds and resolves issues of safety and maintenance of grounds, including but not limited to OSHA regulations and playground safety. 
  2. Coordinates the installation of electronics and electronic systems utilizing specifications, diagrams, drawings, and verbal/written directions.
  1. Ensures local, state, and national electrical codes are observed, and adequate materials are utilized throughout electronic systems.
  2. Effectively communicates with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., school administration and contracted parties) regarding work order requests, preventive maintenance, and safety.
  3. Completes other duties as assigned. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Associate's Degree (preferred)
  • Four (4) years of construction or maintenance background
  • Ability to attain OSHA and Playground Safety Certification(s)

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION:

  • Knowledge of construction and maintenance means and methods
  • Knowledge of governmental compliance requirements (e.g., OSHA)

 

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

  • Ability to work with diverse individuals and/or groups
  • Requires the ability to interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
  • Must be adaptable to performing in stressful situations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary/Medium - Must be able to exert up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally, and up to 15 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 5 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to lift and/or carry a weight of up to 60 lbs.

Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Hearing and speech are used to communicate in person or over the telephone. Vision: Frequent near acuity and occasional far acuity. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Vision to read printed materials, a VDT screen, or other monitoring devices.

Environmental Conditions: Varies from indoor exposure to outside weather conditions. Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to loud.

Hazards: Uneven walking/working surfaces, communicable diseases, cleaning chemicals, lifting/carrying of materials, and power/hand-operated equipment and machinery (as related to specific assignment).
