PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The role of the MTSS/504 specialist serves to drive student success for at-risk learners by implementing and overseeing the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework. Lead the student problem solving team process for struggling students and empower educators through training, intervention modeling, progress monitoring, data analysis, and direct student support. Manage all aspects of the Section 504 program for the campus, collaborating with students, parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators on identification, evaluation, and the creation of individualized support plans.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree from accredited university preferred
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject assigned /or
Comparable specialist degree in areas of special education
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong background in curriculum and instruction
Strong knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of state required testing programs
Knowledge of computer and software applications
Ability to interpret test data
Knowledge of state and federal laws for educating students with disabilities.
Knowledge of Section 504 laws for education students.
Ability to communicate effectively with parents and staff
Ability to implement policies and procedures
Ability to interpret data
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Experience:
Three (3) years of successful teaching experience or related special education assessment background preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
The MTSS/504 Specialist will collaboratively work with district directors and campus principals to develop, implement, and oversee Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)/Response to Intervention (RtI) and Section 504 programs. This role will provide expert consultation and support to campus-based administrators, professionals, teachers, and parents to ensure the educational needs of eligible students are met. The [Job Title] will facilitate the MTSS process to enhance student achievement for at-risk students and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Development and Implementation: Cooperatively develop, implement, and monitor MTSS/RtI and Section 504 programs in alignment with district, state, and federal regulations.
Campus Support and Consultation: Consult with and assist campus teams in understanding and implementing MTSS/RtI and Section 504 processes, including evaluation, accommodation development, and plan monitoring.
Section 504 Management: Assist campus teams in the evaluation and development of Section 504 plans, ensuring access to all educational and co-curricular opportunities and evaluating the necessity of specific accommodations. Ensure timely monitoring and review of these plans.
MTSS Implementation and Facilitation: Implement the MTSS process to improve outcomes for students at risk of academic failure or dropping out. Facilitate Problem Solving Team meetings focused on evidence-based interventions across academic, behavioral, and social-emotional domains.
Data Management and Compliance: Oversee stakeholder access to and verification of MTSS documents for compliance. Maintain accurate and confidential MTSS documentation.
Instructional Support: Assist in identifying groups of learners with targeted needs and provide guidance, modeling, and training on differentiation and intervention strategies across all tiers. Provide Tier interventions to identified students.
- Coordination and Communication: Coordinate with campus teams to ensure a seamless continuum of services for students with diverse needs. Establish and maintain open communication with students, parents/guardians, and all stakeholders. Serve as a liaison between the school/district and community resources. Communicate effectively with all stakeholders about MTSS initiatives and student progress. Build and maintain strong relationships with students and families.
- Operational Support: Assist with campus-level processes, timelines, and documentation related to MTSS/RtI and Section 504. Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides and/or volunteers as needed.
Professional Development and Collaboration: Attend all district MTSS trainings to stay informed of current regulations and best practices. Maintain professional relationships and communicate effectively with all colleagues and community members.
Student Progress and Data Collection: Monitor students' progress frequently to make decisions about changes in instruction or goals, applying student response data for appropriate decision-making. Prepare and compile academic and behavioral data (RTI and PBIS) and share it with appropriate personnel.
Miscellaneous: Performs other related duties as assigned.
