Position Summary


The mission of Hope the Mission is to prevent, reduce, and eliminate poverty, hunger, and homelessness by offering immediate assistance and long-term solutions. 

Working under the supervision of the Senior Accounting Specialist, the Accounting Specialist  aids in cultivating a team-oriented work environment aligned with the long-range plan, mission, vision, and values of HTM.

The Accounting Specialist fulfills departmental responsibilities by successfully working in coordination with the Admin., Accounting and Finance teams to ensure compliance with HTM’s accounting procedures. 

A successful Accounting Specialist  is analytical, has perseverance, strong attention to detail, and superior problem-solving and organizational skills.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proper expense classification and grant coding.

  • Accounts payable, including vendor records maintenance.

  • Assists in the preparation of monthly financial statements as requested.

  • Assistance with the annual audit process.

  • Assists in preparation of reports when requested.

  • Assists with Accounts Receivables, including invoice preparation when required.

  • Compile all receipts for expenses and reimbursements.

  • Enter all transactions for multiple credit cards accounts.

  • Enter and update information into relevant databases.

  • Open, organize, and distribute checks and credit card slips that come by mail.

  • Assist in donation processing and donor database maintenance.

  • New Vendor setup and maintenance.

  • Research, track, and resolve documentation problems and discrepancies.

  • Review source documents, including matching PO to Invoice for A/P.

  • Track and enter employees’ expense reports.

  • Works with and assists Department supervisor(s) and Director of Finance,  when needed in order to complete all yearly offsite audit tasks.

  • Maintain and organize back-up documents on “Dropbox” database.

  • Store hard copies of data in an organized manner to optimize retrieval.

  • Advise accounting department supervisor(s) of issues related to data or vendor discrepancies.

  • Advanced skills in MS Office (Excel), accounting software, and databases.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrate open, clear, concise and professional communication.

  • Ability to manipulate a large amount of data and interpret analyses.

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to complete assignments with attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.

  • Assists with special projects and analysis as needed.

  • May require travel dependent on HTM’s  needs.

Qualifications


A minimum of 3-5 years and experience in accounting. 


Other Requirements


  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis

  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead

  • Ability to operate a computer, fax, and telephone

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer 

  • Occasionally lift and/or move, push and pull up to 25 pounds

  • Performs any other duties, projects and responsibilities as assigned by manager


Employment Classification


  • FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Drive vehicle in and around Los Angeles County, as needed; be able to enter buildings that may require climbing stairs. Be periodically subjected to outside environmental conditions. Use a desktop and/or laptop computer; copy, postage and fax machines. Complete all required forms in personal writing.
