Position Purpose
Help provide a welcoming, safe, secure environment for the Garden’s collections, its members, visitors, volunteers and staff while maintaining the Garden’s customer service program and standards.
As part of the Exhibits team, the Gallery Attendant Associate will protect the media and equipment in the indoor art exhibition FRAMERATE: Desert Pulse and the facilities in The RAF Exhibit Gallery. Gallery Attendant Associates provide for the safety and security of guests, staff members and Garden volunteers. Gallery Attendant Associates enforce all policies and procedures. The Gallery Attendant Associate is a uniformed, unarmed position that is trained in knowledge of the exhibition and Garden customer service.
Essential Duties
Perform all duties of the Gallery Attendant Associate position:
- Monitor capacity and attendance of the Exhibit Gallery and communicate with Visitor Services staff when they are managing entrance flow.
- Remain alert and watchful while sitting or standing for long periods of time, circulate frequently through scheduled post to deter acts of vandalism, theft or negligence and ensure the safety and positive experience of visitors.
- Demonstrate a professional and courteous demeanor at all times when interacting with Garden visitors, staff, volunteers, and onsite partners; ensure Garden policies are enforced.
- Report all suspicious conditions or persons; provide descriptions of violators of Garden policies; report accidents, injuries and/or hazardous conditions to the Ranger Team and Exhibits Manager. Make Work Order recommendations to the Exhibits Manager for any areas of the Exhibit Gallery that require cleaning and/or maintenance for the safety of others.
- Learn provided Exhibit script and stay informed about Garden policies, promotions, activities and events in order to provide a high level of customer service.
- Effectively handle evacuations and difficult situations according to Garden policy.
- Daily cleaning of gallery space, as instructed and trained by the Exhibits Manager.
- Other duties as assigned.
Rate of Pay: $18.00 per hour
Requirements
Competencies
- High School diploma or equivalent or relevant work experience.
- Superior customer service skills
- Ability to move, remain stationary, and work for significant periods of time; ability to detect and convey emergency lights and audible alarms; ability to identify unsafe conditions/behaviors; and ability to fully operate communication devices, including radios and cell phones, ability to see and work in low lighting
- Ability to work any shift, including weekends or holidays, as assigned.
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check.
- Previous experience providing security or campus public safety services in a museum, art gallery, park, zoo or other hospitality/guest services environment preferred.
Position Timeline
Gallery open hours and dates: FRAMERATE: Desert Pulse exhibition October 9, 2025 – May 10, 2025,
8 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily (with extended hours October 9 – May 10 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday- Sunday only) shifts are 4, 6 or 8 hours
Equipment Used
Typical office equipment, cleaning supplies; this role will also use a two-way radio.
Internal Communication
Frequent interaction with all Garden employees.
External Communication
Frequent communication with visitors and possible vendors.
Working Conditions
Some physical effort beyond what’s typically required in a normal office environment. The noise level in the work environment is moderate, constant ambient music with occasional amplified sound throughout the workspace. The workspace is a low lighting environment with digital artwork on LED screens, light strobing may be present in some works.
