Internal Applicants Only - Impact Funding Officer

We are recruiting an Impact Funding Officer to manage a suite of funds that form part of the University’s internal offering to enhance academic career development and research impact, and meet the ambitions of the University Strategy. Specifically, the post will support the UKRI Impact Acceleration Accounts (IAAs) held by Cardiff University, currently six. With strong experience of working effectively within a research funding environment in the HE, public or third sector, the postholder will have worked in research administration and ideally have experience in supporting funding schemes, such as coordinating and monitoring internal peer reviewed funding processes, and in supporting and monitoring funded projects throughout their lifetime. This will include financial reporting. 

The postholder will be highly organised with excellent time management skills and be able to work to tight deadlines, in order to present information in a timely and accurate manner. This will also require good attention to detail and high levels of accuracy. 

The postholder will be required to liaise with senior academics and will act as a point of contact for advice and guidance to academic staff.

The postholder will be based in the Impact and Engagement Team within the Research Service, and will also work closely with a number of other teams within the Department and across the University including the Research Commercialisation,  Business Engagement and Partnerships, Civic Mission, and Communications Teams. The postholder will also work in a coordinated manner with Research Finance Officers and Contracts Officers in Research Services who support budgets and contracts for IAA funding. 

The post is full-time and will be fixed term until July 2028.

Salary: £33,482 - £36,130 per annum (Grade 5)

Key Duties

•    Assist with research administration activities including funding scheme launches, management of applications, management of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) data, organising review panels, project set up, project monitoring and closing projects. 
•    Assist with communications activities such as advertising events, training and funding schemes,  and maintaining and updating intranet and external webpages.
•    Assist with administration for events and training organised by the IAA Funding Team and the wider Impact Team; providing event support and communications support as needed.
•    Work with University systems and other team members to support the financial management of the IAA programmes and IAA funded projects, and the contracts process for IAA projects.
•    Provide professional advice and guidance on the IAA activities (events and training) and funding schemes. Provide this advice to both internal and external customers, with respect to processes and procedures, with the postholder using their own judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate courses of action, and ensuring complex and conceptual issues are understood, including, for example, eligibility criteria.
•    Supporting relations between academic staff and a broad range of internal stakeholders and facilitate effective relationships where required.
•    Investigate and analyse specific issues with respect to the management and administration of funding schemes including contributing to recommendation reports and funding scheme reviews. 
•    Ensure that the provision of research administration for IAAs is delivered across the institution, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirements, ensuring that UKRI timelines are adhered to.
•    Collaborate with others in order to make recommendations for developments of established processes and procedures e.g. developments around communications, or improving project monitoring processes.. 
•    Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required e.g. UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
•    Coordinate the monitoring and reporting of activities and projects funded by internal schemes, to gather data needed by the University and for UKRI. Including supporting evaluation activities and report writing.

Essential Criteria

1.    Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience
2.    Substantial experience working on the administration of funding to ensure effective coordination of funding review panels, monitoring project outcomes, and providing financial support at programme and project level as well as the ability to develop effective communications for funding schemes (e.g. online communications / webpages), and handling data relating to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). 
3.    Able to demonstrate professional knowledge within the areas of research, innovation and impact support and the management of funding schemes to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers including acting as a point of contact for academic staff requiring guidance.
4.    Ability to set up standard office systems and procedures and make improvements as appropriate.
5.    Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people including developing online communications around funding schemes.
