Job Details: 

SmartStart Education seeks a Program Coordinator for a tutoring program to work at schools in Prince George's County, MD. The position begins early September 2025. Schedules will be announced in the coming weeks. Applicants should be available a minimum of 3 days per week. 

The Onsite Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a school-based academic or enrichment program. Acting as a central figure in communication, coordination, and quality assurance, the coordinator ensures that programming runs smoothly, students are supported, and alignment with school goals is maintained. This role includes managing attendance, staff leadership and ongoing communication with both families and school leadership.

Key Responsibilities include:

 

Attendance & Roster Management

• Track and confirm daily student attendance is entered accurately.

• Follow up on student absences.

• Update and manage student rosters, ensuring accuracy and timely communication of changes to staff and tutors.

Parent & Family Communication

• Serve as the primary liaison for families regarding attendance, scheduling, and program-related concerns.

• Notify parents/guardians of attendance issues, behavioral updates, or scheduling changes.

• Maintain professional communication with families, including an initial welcome letter, biweekly or monthly progress reports, and additional updates as requested to support a strong home-school connection.

Staffing & Substitute Coverage

• Provide on-the-spot classroom coverage or support when staff members are absent.

• Coordinate with staff and administration to ensure proper coverage and instructional continuity.

• Maintain readiness to support or lead sessions as needed.4. Curriculum Management

• Ensure tutors and staff are equipped with the necessary curriculum and instructional materials.

• Support the implementation of curriculum in alignment with school goals and program objectives.

• Monitor the pacing and delivery of instructional content and address discrepancies.

Tutor Support & Observations

• Conduct regular classroom observations to support tutor effectiveness and student engagement.

• Provide informal feedback and share observations with program leadership for professional development planning.

• Assist with onboarding and training new tutors or staff on curriculum and program expectations.

School Liaison Duties

• Serve as the primary onsite point of contact for the school.

• Schedule and attend regular check-ins with the school’s designated point of contact (POC) to align student needs, schedules, and program updates.

• Communicate relevant school feedback to the Program Manager to ensure responsiveness and collaboration.

General Program Operations

• Assist with logistics such as room setup, student transitions, and material distribution.

• Enforce program policies and foster a safe, inclusive learning environment.

• Troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day operational issues as they arise.

Qualifications


Qualifications: 

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in any field is mandatory. ***Please note that applications with anticipated graduation dates will not be considered.  
  • Demonstrated experience of at least one year in teaching or tutoring, either within a school environment or another educational setting.  
  • Comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges faced by urban students, schools, and communities, encompassing racial disparity, socio-economic disparity, and cultural disparity.  
  • Mastery of elementary and middle school Math and ELA concepts and skills, substantiating proficiency in the subject matter. 
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Clear and professional communication with diverse stakeholders• Observational and feedback skills to support instructional quality
  • Flexibility and problem-solving under pressure
  • Experience working with students, families, and school staff
  • Familiarity with educational programs, tutoring, or after-school enrichment

Pay Range: $27.62 to $33.66 per hour paid out at a Daily Rate.
