Description

Job Summary:

Technician II performs intermediate repairs and diagnostics on metric motorcycles and powersports equipment. The technician is expected to work more independently and assist junior team members when needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties from Technician I role.
  • Diagnose and repair braking systems, cooling systems, and suspension components with limited supervision.
  • Conduct minor electrical diagnostics using multimeters, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.
  • Replace and adjust clutches, perform valve clearance checks, and tune carburetors.
  • Utilize shop systems (e.g., Lightspeed or DMS) for repair order tracking, parts requests, and documentation.
  • Interpret torque specs and perform safety-critical torquing procedures on wheels, engine covers, and suspension.
  • Conduct valve clearance checks and adjustments.
  • Replace gaskets, seals, and major engine components (e.g., clutches).
  • Interpret service manuals and wiring diagrams.
  • Communicate clearly with service advisors regarding repair needs and findings.
  • Explain technical information to service advisors or customers when necessary.
  • Assist Technician I staff as needed, helping with procedures and sharing best practices.
  • Participate in training for advanced systems (EFI, CVT, CAN-bus diagnostics).
  • Participate in internal training and update sessions.
  • Test ride vehicles after service when authorized, documenting results.

Training & Knowledge Requirements:

  • 2–4 years of motorcycle or powersports repair experience.
  • Proficient in metric fastener identification, torque specs, and shop math.
  • Knowledge of fuel injection systems, CAN-bus electrical systems, and CVT operation.
  • Completion of OEM or manufacturer-specific training preferred (e.g., Honda, Yamaha).

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • Must be able to pass and drug screen
  • Must have a clean driving record and an M class license.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routines reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to add and subtract three-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.

Physical Demands:

  • Manual Dexterity: Regular use of hands, arms, and fingers to operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic devices, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Standing/Walking: Must be able to stand and walk on hard surfaces for up to 8–10 hours per day.
  • Lifting Requirements: Ability to lift, push, and pull objects weighing up to 75 lbs unassisted; heavier items may require team lifting or mechanical assistance.
  • Bending/Crouching: Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching overhead, and crawling under vehicles.
  • Visual Requirements: Visual acuity needed for working with small parts, color-coded wires, diagnostic screens, and reading service manuals or computer monitors.
  • Auditory Requirements: Ability to identify vehicle issues by sound (e.g., engine knocking, belt squeal, bearing whine).
  • Repetitive Motion: Frequent repetitive movements when using torque wrenches, ratchets, and diagnostic tools.

Work Environment:

  • Shop Environment: Indoor/outdoor service facility with exposure to fluctuating temperatures, loud noise levels, dust, chemicals, exhaust fumes, and oil residues.
  • Noise Exposure: High noise levels from engines, impact tools, air compressors, and dynos; hearing protection provided as required.
  • Chemical Exposure: Frequent exposure to petroleum products, brake cleaner, degreasers, coolant, battery acid, and adhesives; must use provided PPE.
  • Safety Protocols: Must wear safety glasses, gloves, and protective footwear at all times. Shop PPE policy strictly enforced.
  • Work Schedule: Full-time position requiring occasional overtime or weekend hours depending on customer demand or seasonal workload.
