JOB TITLE:  Senior Vocational Support Professional

STATUS: Full-time

SALARY: $19.50 per hour

 

JOB PURPOSE:

A Senior Vocational Support Professional provides onsite instructions, support, and encouragement to people with developmental or intellectual disabilities. Generally, the SVSP works as a member of a team with the following objectives:

  • Person-centered planning and individualized implementation of goals for individuals receiving support from the team
  • Job development
  • Locates and follows through on volunteer, recreational, and business opportunities
  • Provides transportation to and from employment, volunteer, and recreational sites.
  • Deals with crisis situations
  • Assures that all duties required by the employment site of the person(s) receiving this support are met through either the person or the employee, as necessary.
  • The SVSP assures that activities in all locations comply with guidelines established by the agency, the Federal government, and the State of Maryland.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Employment, Volunteer and Recreational Skills & Supports
  • Assists individuals to meet his or her employment goals, by teaching skills, providing support, and building on individual strengths and capabilities.
  • Supports individuals in the development of friendships and other relationships in employment, volunteer, and recreational settings.
  • Provides on-site skill instructions and overall job training while encouraging the development of natural supports systems.
  • Monitors and assesses employer and consumer satisfaction.
  • Analyze potential job openings, locations, tasks, and responsibilities in order to coordinate job placement.
  • Maintains frequent and positive contacts with employers, family members, or other important people in the lives of the people served.
  • Provides information, on behalf of the person receiving support, to various community, business, civic organizations, and community service providers (e.g., doctors social services, etc.) in a professional manner.
  • Works with employers to develop, implement, and monitor procedures to assure that products and services are of competitive quality.
  • Assures compliance with applicable regulations (i.e MOSHA, DDA, health fire).
  • Develops Task Analyses, as necessary.
  • Assists employment, recreational, volunteer and apprenticeship sites in the development of adaptive methods, as necessary.
  • Provides or assists with personal care, as necessary.
  • Understand and implement the concepts of natural supports in the delivery of supports.


MEDICAL ADMINISTRATION:

  • Assists with and/or dispenses medication (as certified) or other prescribed medical treatments, as necessary


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduation from accredited high school or GED.
  • 2 years of competitive employment or successful completion of Supported Employment Services (ACRE) Certification, or an associate's degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge about the formal and informal supports available in his or her community to assist people receiving support to identify and access these supports.


JOBS KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Possess proficiency in computer bases software, e.g., Microsoft Applications
  • Demonstrated understanding of and willingness to participate in a team environment
  • Ability and willingness to learn and to apply techniques of crisis management
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze information and come to appropriate resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with all employees, employers, and community members
  • Possesses a valid driving license with a good driving record and access to a safe vehicle (must pass agency-sponsored inspection) for transporting people receiving services
  • Completion of an agency approved advance employment special certification and/or completion of agency approved applied behavior specialist coursework
  • Must be able to work a varied schedule in the Tri-County area, as assigned
  • Possesses the ability to pass the criminal background check mandated by the State of Maryland

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not exposed to weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
