Virginia Union University (VUU) is a distinguished private institution founded in 1865 that proudly upholds a legacy of academic excellence and community engagement. The Dean of the School of Education provides visionary leadership and strategic direction to advance the mission and goals of the School. The Dean oversees academic programs, faculty, and staff while promoting excellence in teaching, research, and service. Additionally, the Dean is responsible for developing and implementing fundraising initiatives to support the growth and sustainability of the School, enhancing its impact on the community, and fostering partnerships.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee curriculum development, academic programming, and assessment to maintain high standards of educational quality.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements, continuously improving the School’s academic offerings.
  • Support research and scholarship within the School and encourage faculty engagement in scholarly activities.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in faculty recruitment, development, and retention efforts.
  • Lead initiatives aimed at increasing student enrollment, retention, and graduation rates.
  • Create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes student success and well-being.
  • Identify opportunities for financial growth through grants, partnerships, and other external funding sources.
  • Lead and participate in fundraising activities to secure financial support for student scholarships, faculty research, and school programs.
  • Work closely with the institution’s advancement office to identify potential donors, cultivate relationships, and solicit major gifts.

 

Education

  • A terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent) in Education or a closely related field.
  • Proven leadership experience in academic administration, preferably at the level of department chair, associate dean, or higher.
  • Must be able to lift to 10 pounds.
