Title: NSC Outreach Coordinator
Location: Bronx, NY
FLSA Status: Non- exempt
Role Summary: The Neighborhood Safety Council (NSC) Outreach Coordinator will engage community members within the 44th Precinct to ensure diverse, meaningful participation in neighborhood safety initiatives. This position requires a community-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills, deep knowledge of local neighborhoods, and commitment to building safer communities through collaborative approaches.
Primary Job Responsibilities/Duties:
- Conduct direct community outreach to identify and engage diverse stakeholders within the 44th Precinct
- Organize and support community events to promote NSC visibility and participation
- Facilitate communication between NSC members and the broader community
- Assist with implementation of community projects defined in the Neighborhood Safety Action Plan
- Gather community input to inform NSC priorities and strategies
- Document outreach activities and community feedback
- Support preparation and facilitation of NSC meetings and events
- Build relationships with residents, businesses, community organizations, and other stakeholders
- Distribute information about community resources and safety initiatives
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to travel to multiple NYC sites as needed.
Work Environment / Schedule Requirements:
- May be required to work shifts, including evenings or night tours and/or Saturdays, Sundays and holidays with holiday pay differential.
- Office setting with regular exposure to computer screens and moderate noise levels.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand English for administrative purposes.
- Must pass drug screening to be appointed.
- This position may be subject to a series of investigations before and after appointment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in community organizing, human services, or related field preferred
- Minimum of one year experience in community outreach, organizing, or related field required
- Deep knowledge of 44th Precinct neighborhoods (Concourse, Highbridge, Mount Eden, Concourse Village) preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to connect with diverse community members
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) required
- Experience working with communities impacted by violence preferred
- Knowledge of community resources within the Bronx preferred
- Valid driver's license preferred but not required
