About the Department

Position Duties
- Create effective, innovative programs and promotions to expand lifesaving effort of the shelter.
- Maximize the number of positive outcomes for all eligible animals via assertive use of best practices and methods in shelter animal placements.
- Provide high quality customer service to guests who visit or call.
- Resolve problems and addresses any customer dissatisfaction regarding intakes and outcomes.
- Interface with and support members of the public regarding acclimating shelter animals into new homes.
- Maintain knowledge of companion animal behavior and health, common issues, and ways to address them to support the human-animal connection.
- Partner with Animal Care Managers to review personality profiles, in-house behavior notes, and medical conditions to determine appropriate placement options.
- Establish formal documented procedures for all aspects of lifesaving and managed intake.
- Supervise volunteer adoption follow-up with each adopter one week after adoption, one month after adoption and three months after adoption. (Subject to change.)
- Enter accurate information into database in a timely manner as regards intakes and outcomes.
- Develop and direct training for staff and volunteers helping with intakes and outcomes.
- Review, develop, and update materials and procedures utilized in the adoption counseling process including those to help develop a better understanding of animal behavior, enhance the human-animal bond and increase shelter animal adoptions.
- Review, develop, and update materials and procedures utilized in the managed intake process with the intent of supporting pet owners in crisis, keeping families together, and rehoming animals outside of the shelter.
Minimum Qualifications
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Required:
- Five years of relevant animal care or community outreach experience.
Other Qualifications
Certified in animal euthanasia by lethal injection preferred.
Tuesday – Saturday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm with occasional evening work
