Position Title: Grocery Buyer (On-Site)

Job Summary
The Grocery Buyer serves as the primary purchaser for designated product categories within PWADC’s grocery purchasing department. This role is responsible for maximizing sales and profitability by developing and executing category strategies informed by market trends, consumer behavior, and competitive analysis. The Grocery Buyer collaborates closely with suppliers, marketing, sales, and distribution teams to ensure optimal product assortment, competitive pricing, effective promotions, and high in-store merchandising standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Purchasing & Inventory Management
• Source, negotiate, and purchase grocery products in assigned categories to meet quality, pricing, and availability goals.
• Manage inventory levels to minimize overstocks and shortages while optimizing warehouse storage space.
• Maintain high filling rates and maximize product dating to stores.
• Ensure 100% accuracy in invoicing.
• Review and process daily store credits for damages, quality issues, or returns to the warehouse.
• Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to secure competitive advantages.
• Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure reliable supply and partnership growth.
• Optimize product assortment, including item selection, shelf placement, and category mix.
• Establish competitive pricing aligned with category goals.
• Monitor category performance by analyzing sales, margins, and other KPIs.
• Identify underperforming areas and implement corrective actions.
• Provide a high level of customer service to PWADC stores and address operational challenges promptly.
Requirements
Position Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree or 10 years produce experience
· Experience in a purchasing role preferred
· Product knowledge of produce items, accounting principles, and communication skills
· Knowledge of warehouse functions, billing, and receiving procedures
· Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
· Read and understand pertinent data
· Perform mathematical calculations
· Occasional travel
· Computer Proficiency including e-mail, Office 365, and additional work-related programs
