About the Department

Under general supervision, the Grants Coordinator leads the coordination of grant applications, implementation, and closeout across Union County. This role serves as a key connector, linking departmental needs, community goals, and available funding streams to create meaningful, measurable outcomes for our citizens. This position also identifies funding opportunities, develops competitive proposals, manages timelines, and ensures compliance to transform resources into results.

Position Duties

Coordinates the full lifecycle of grants, including application development, implementation oversight, performance tracking, and closeout documentation.


Researches and identifies grant opportunities that align with Union County’s strategic priorities, collaborating with departments to prepare competitive, compelling applications.


Develops timelines and ensures grant-related activities remain on track, meeting program deadlines and compliance requirements.


Facilitates interdepartmental communication to ensure consistent execution of grant-funded initiatives and shared understanding of responsibilities.


Prepares and submits reports and documentation to local, state, and federal agencies in accordance with grantor guidelines.


Monitors program budgets, deliverables, and outcomes to ensure responsible stewardship of grant funds and maximum community benefit.


Leads or participates in post-award grant briefings, outlining expectations and tracking key milestones.


Supports public engagement efforts related to grant-funded programs, including community meetings, hearings, and outreach as needed.


Tracks and maintains all grant-related records, contracts, and performance data in accordance with retention policies and audit standards.


Serves as a technical resource on grant compliance, funding strategy, and outcome measurement to County departments and leadership.


Identifies and documents success stories that highlight the positive impact of grant-funded programs on Union County residents.


Promotes a culture of purpose-driven service, reflecting the County’s mission to improve quality of life through thoughtful investment in the community.


Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Public Service, Business Administration or related field, and three (3) years of related experience in government Grants Management or Community Development; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 



Special Requirements: 

Extensive knowledge of the laws, policies, and principles of community planning and grants management. Extensive knowledge of grant application and administration procedures, as well as reporting and evaluation requirements. Thorough knowledge of the processes associated with County ordinances and State and Federal statutes, which govern community and economic development activities, and related internal compliance data requirements. 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Public Service, Business Administration or related field, and three (3) years of experience in government Grants Management, Community Development, Federal Grants including Integrated Disbursement & Information System, Disaster Recovery Grant Reporting System, Electronic Line of Credit Control Center, Sage HMIS Reporting Repository, or other HUD reporting and disbursement systems. 



Other Qualifications

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, printers, scanners, shredders, etc. Must be able to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. However, if the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires the need to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
