RCOE provides administrative support to districts, leads programs for preschool, special education, pregnant minor, corrections, migrant, and vocational students, and offers professional training, support and resources for teachers, administrators, and staff throughout Riverside County.

Job Summary

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The position of Principal, Special Education is responsible for planning, organizing, controlling, and directing the educational operations, activities, and services which include Special Education and other programs as assigned, operating at a Regional Learning Center or other local school sites. Positions in this class are responsible for a wide range of management and administrative responsibilities necessary to provide instructional leadership, maintain budgetary oversight, comply with Federal, State, and Local regulations, supervise assigned staff, establish appropriate relationships with community and other agencies, and ensure an effective program of student education. General administrative supervision is provided by the Assistant Superintendent of Student Programs and Services and related program directors. This position is designated as a certificated management position and is part of the Management Leadership Team.

Requirements / Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: Five years (5) of successful public school teaching experience, preferably in Special Education or related programs. Additionally, two (2) years of recent administrative experience or four (4) years of experience as an administrative designee/lead teacher are required. EDUCATION: Master’s degree in education or related field from an accredited college/university required. Doctorate degree desirable. CERTIFICATES/CREDENTIALS/LICENSES: • Possession of a valid California Teaching Credential required • Possession of a valid California Administrative Credential appropriate for K-12 public school administration (Internship eligibility for the Administrative credential may be considered) • Valid California Driver’s license You must provide copies of the permit/credential as required for the position or provide evidence of qualifying for the required permit/credential with your application materials to qualify for the position.
