Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY: Under supervision of the Nutrition Site Manager, to assist in the proper reheating and/or cooking of main course items and side dishes, preparing salad bar and the setup and maintenance during service, service line set up and presentation and serving of meals; and kitchen cleaning as part of maintaining a safe food production and service environment. Nutrition Assistant I is also responsible, as assigned, for record keeping of temperatures, inventory counting and cashiering duties including; proficient operation of point of sale software system, recording meal sales, record keeping, monies collection including processing advanced payments; do related work as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (include but not limited to): 1. Assists in the proper reheating and/or cooking of main course items, side dishes and preparation of salad bar and serving of meals. 2. Assists in setting up the serving area for food service. 3. Assists in taking food temperatures and recording and maintaining temperatures logs for equipment, food production, and food transport. 4. Participates in the meal service periods; follows menu, portions sizes and Offer vs Serve procedures. 5. Supervises student help. 6. Properly operates and cleans various kitchen equipment. 7. Participates and maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of all food preparation, serving and storage areas. 8. Transfers food to and from various serving, preparation and selling areas. 9. Assists in the proper receiving, storage and inventorying of all food, paper, chemicals and supplies. 10. Acts as cashier when directed. 11. Establishes positive relations with students, school administration, parents and community. 12. Does other related work as required and assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications

Required: Equivalent to graduation from high school Knowledge of: 1. Methods and equipment used in serving foods in large quantities; operation, cleaning, and care of utensils and equipment. 2. Basic kitchen work, safety, and sanitary habits and dress. 3. Proper personal hygiene. 4. Oral and written communication skills. 5. English language skills. 6. Basic math skills. 7. Customer service and public relations skills. 8. Critical thinking and problem solving skills. Ability to: 1. Follow oral and written instructions. 2. Establish and maintain cooperative relationship with those contacted during the course of work. 3. Meet food code standards. 4. Learn to operate and handle various kitchen utensils and equipment including those operated by motors. 5. Work while standing or walking for long periods of time. 6. Lift up to 25 pounds on a continuous basis; lift medium to heavy objects up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. 7. Obtain valid California driver’s license.
