Summary: Responsible for the efficient and secure loading of all Williams Lumber delivery vehicles.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities to include but not limited to:
- Directs the loading of each truck in accordance with the delivery sequence scheduled by the Yard Foreman.
- Supervises the work of Yard Associates assigned to assemble orders for loading.
- Supervises the setting and tie-down of all materials loaded for delivery.
- Ensures materials loaded are accurate in regards to type, size, quantity and quality for each order.
- Uses judgment in selecting quality materials, and substituting items if necessary. Must note any substitutions, changes, or discrepancies on the appropriate invoice copies prior to delivery.
- Coordinates with other forklift operators and directs the positioning of materials to ensure good weight distribution.
- Oversees all load tie-downs to assure belts and ropes are sound and secure. Also, ensures protective equipment is being used during periods of inclement weather.
- Pre-assemble material for future loading and delivery. These pre-assembled materials must be marked to prevent disassembly.
- Cooperates with the Yard Foreman and Drivers to ensure quick turnaround of the delivery vehicles during the course of the day.
- Reports any observed safety hazard or faulty loading situation to management.
- When not engaged in setting loads, functions as a Yard Associate (see Yard Associate job description).
As with all other jobs, other duties may be assigned. Management reserves the right to reassign an individual in this position to another position in the interest of efficient personnel utilization.

Education and / or Experience
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma; or twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and comprehend correspondence and memos. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to customers, associates, and venders.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percents, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardizations exist.
